COMM: 146.400 If you're running a Baofeng handheld radio, please consider purchasing a magnetic mount external antenna so that I can hear you, no matter how far back you are. @lurch can suggest a nice kit he purchased.
@lurch

Can you share the specs. for the magnetic antenna setup for the hand held radio you are using?

I use Nagoya UT-72, 20 inch PL-259 with SMA adaptor for BTECH and BaoFeng hand held Ham Radios Amazon $34.89 Also have a second one for my GMRS Radio , too Nagoya UT-72G.

No complaints with this setup and easily moved from one vehicle to another. Strong signal, place high on roof or front hood, where I have mine mounted.
Run antenna cable through firewall or out through door/jam, over hood.

I intend to buy a mobile radio to mount in the truck but want to research it a little more. This will be good until then and to swap between rigs.

Solid plan. 👍🏽

It looks like the 4R will be ready this week. Lockhart will be a shake down, but hopefully not a break down, run. Mesa Man and I will leave Wednesday. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with him.

I’ve got a mount similar to this:

I’m currently running this antenna but don’t have much use yet to speak to how well it works. No issues though…

I used this 5/8 wave whip for years and had great luck with the boafeng.

My sarcasm was lost on you. I guess I should have put a :rofl: in there.

Also I guess I thought you've always identified as "slow" so....

I’ll be in Moab the 15th and 16th then return the 18th and 19th. Plan on camping. I’ll be in my FZJ60 on 35s and my son will be in his 2002 taco. Would be nice to meet up somewhere

Not likely to be ready. I'm now a maybe.

I’m still interested in meeting. Since my resto-mod ‘69 FJ40 isn’t running right now, I’ll be my all original, stock 1979 FJ40 on 30’s. If you guys are going to do an easier trail that my old girl can handle, please let me know.
