@mingles you posted while I was typing...
I like your willingness to experiment and change this up. I also like the spacer idea a lot better.
Take pictures of your process for the next iteration. I like this and i'd like to see it
To those who have the landtank seat extender. Just confirm for me...
1)with the plastic lower valance on the front of the seat you can still move the seat to full forward (which is 2 inches less than previously)
2)it is possible to use on both drivers and passengers seats, i believe someone said this earlier but just want to confirm.
Thanks[/QUOTE
Tredwards
I took the plastic lower valance off a long time ago and can't find them otherwise I could go test fit one and tell you. My guess is that if the lower valance is installed you would at least have to run the front of the seat to the maximum upward position for it to clear but I can't confirm this for you. As far as the passenger seat working with the extender it has been confirmed to work by several members. You could call Landtank and ask if you want 100% confirmation. I only have the drivers side but future plans do call for the passenger side extender as well.
You mentioned that the seat will travel 2" less than previously to the forward position. I don't believe you lose any forward travel but you gain two inches of rear travel by grinding a few bumps or stops out of the way and adding the extender. If you want to take a measurement on yours without the extender in the full forward position I can do the same on mine and we will have the answer to that question. Just tell me how you measure and I will do the same.
Its available in black from H3R and others. H3R is a shiny black where I went with a more satin/matte textured finish for my powder coat. In actuality I tried using what SafeCraft uses but after two phone calls to SafeCraft they wouldn't give up what they are using stating it was their own formula. Eh, ok so I got close. @azcrackshot get detail how close it is or isn't or whether it bugs him or not.

Thanks. I'm thinking about doing this mod. Brother in law is 6'7" and this would help plus extinguisher mount would not interfere. Win win
My Safecraft extinguisher and the Wits' End FE mount are basically the same color but the Safecraft FE has a bit more wrinkle or hammer tone to it. One would have to examine close up to tell the difference. They are both a work work of art and match close enough for me to be happy and I am a little picky.
You could always ask Joey to send you an FE mount raw so you can have it powder coated to match your particular FE. Make sure if you do this you have him send you the Wits' End logo plate and some rivets with it because in my opinion it looks bad ass with his logo and the MADE IN THE USA stamped on it!
Here's a pic of my install on Landtank extender brackets (no interference but my seat pretty much stays pinned to the rear of the tracks), and with a Drake extinguisher mount. My feet are still getting used to having it mounted here, but I'm happy to have it, and hopefully not need it! The left corner of the FME is actually a nice place to rest your left foot on freeway drives - it kicks your knee up but it offers a welcome change in position.

Ok man. Just ordered landtank seat extenders for both sides. This means i am in the market for the locking covers for both sides and i imagine a locking console box as well with keyed alike setup. Well I guess I also need that electrical cut off setup as well. Still having to hide stuff from the princess. Ready for the next run of stuff when you are...
Per the discussion last week I have redesigned my seat riser brackets as spacers that are placed between the seat front foot and seat rail. To separate the two pieces requires drilling out the existing rivet and spot weld on each foot. For the spacer material I used 0.060 wall thickness 1 ¼” square tube through bolted with 3/8” hardware. It is similar in thickness to the stamped seat foot and at 32K psi yield strength, if I’m in an accident where the seat brackets deform, I’ve got bigger problems to deal with than just my seat.
The spacers allow full range of seat movement with the Wits’ End FEM. (blatant product placement link) The seat brackets and plastic valence (LX) clear the FEM and the DRAKE extinguisher mount pull release knob just fine. Height of the front edge of the seat (at full rearward position) hasn’t changed as the pre mod highest setting is now equal to the post mod lowest setting. I find it a very comfortable driving position.
DISCLAIMER – As has been pointed out earlier in this thread, this modification changes the geometry of the seat mounting system and is definitely outside of the Mr. T design window. It works for me, on my truck, and I’m happy with it. As with all modifications, I (or any of us) assume the risk by changing the original design of the truck.
Drake Fire Extinguisher Mount – I love it. Clean design, integrated spring loaded pull release, all aluminum construction.

Ok so here is my latest update.
I have finally installed both landtank seat extenders for passenger and driver side. The second seat was much easier than the first seat by the way. There is significantly more foot room with this seat mod. It is fairly straight forward to do. My tips are use a 5/8 inch countersink bit (i bought the irwin pack at Lowes), Use a grinder for the bump stops. and i then smoothed everything out with a dremel. Make sure to pay attention to how the rollers go in - very simple if you just see how they work. I uses some mobil 1 wheel bearing grease I had, maybe too much as i have some petro type fumes in the car now if it sits for a while. gonna wipe as much off as possible this weekend. Now in reference to the extinguisher mount and the setup...
Much more access. full motion forward and backward. Slight height increase of probably about 3/4 inch. this was initially noticeable. I previously sat with seat all the way down and back. I was a little annoyed at first as the seat just felt funny to me as the seat front was higher and felt odd. I have ended up raising the back part of the seat to meet the contours of the original seat positioning and have grown accustomed to this. It actually seats me a little higher which gives a better view overall. Still getting used to new seating position but not too problematic. Wife is much happier with the ability to move the seat forward with this mod, much better driving position for her. Overall there is significantly more foot room with this mod. It was not terribly complicated just tedious to complete.
Pro's: works for both seats, seats move fully forward and backward and clear fire extinguisher even with plastic valance, increased leg room, overall upgrade in seat positioning options
Con's: change in height if seat position on front can be a little frustrating, however, i have grown used to it and it is not as noticeable, expense ($140 per seat), unable to revert back to prior seat setup easily.
Thanks for the cool projects Joey, waiting for more...
