I have an 80 and 100 both are getting surface rust on the underbody, worse on the 100. Nothing structual, just unsightly and I would like to get it cleaned and coated before winter. Does anyone have a referral for a shop that can do this in the Bay Area, preferrably in the North Bay? Any help is appreciated.
Thank you in advance! -Da

Do you live/park close to the Ocean?

Post up some photos showing the rust/undercarriage.

I live about 15 Miles from the ocean. These are pics of the 100. The 80 is minor. Five picture limit.

Dry Ice blasting is one option, ask/search for someone in your area that offers that service:

I'd like to get rust off somehow before treating with fluid film. There has to be somewhere that can take care of this.

Might not be common to have shops like this in SF. Best options would be dry ice blasting or media blasting. Just be aware that media blasting will strip the coating off things like brake lines where the coating looks good.

Try this company:

Maybe try contacting (liquid/compressed) Carbon Dioxide supply companies, ask them if they have any clients who use it to remove rust??
Might help to walk up to the counter to ask, they may not want to give out customer info over the phone

Idk bay area, but I had a friend go with Ice blast + dinitrol, and man it looks awesome. Very spendy, but probably the best way to protect + extended underside health...

If you really want to take care of the rust, dry ice is the move.

That seems crazy high, there was someone on the East Coast (US) doing it for much less (IIRC).
There was a thread on the forum about it maybe 8 years ago??

I'm pretty certain media blasting will be more effective at getting the rust completely removed from the metal than ice blasting. That quote is about what a local rust repair shop charges near me to sandblast the rust, flush out the inside of the frame, weld new metal wherever it is thin, and then primer, paint and Woolwax.

Dry ice is a material known by the State of California to cause birth defects, cancer, warts, sagging chin, nausea, a general feelling of malaise, and an aversion to Starbucks coffee. I'd stay away from that.

I suppose, my favorite pizza and Arby's has almost doubled since before Covid.

Seems like the State of California should provide Dry Ice (Carbon Dioxide) free to those that want to help the environment and use it up,
heck once it's sprayed on the vehicle it'll just evaporate. :hillbilly:
