I had actually found a bmw but had more miles on it so passed on it.

Trollhole just let me know what to grab off dent sr. How do i pull the brake booster or do i need it?

I can just picture it, Marshall stomping the brake pedal, realizing he's not going to stop in time, then saying F*** IT, stomping on the gas and then gently rolling thru the intersection as the engine chugs, chugs, chugs...

Since my wife is never on MUD I can post this here. This is the Xmas surprise I've been working on for the past couple weeks. I've been staying here at my office after hours working on it an hour at a time.

We saw a guy at an arts festival converting vintage suitcases into boom boxes, but he wanted $600 for them. I took my wife's old drum case and did it myself for cheap.

Marine grade water proof speakers from Pyle $15/pair. A $22 Lepai 20W amp (12V DC/2A) with the housing removed and panel mounted. And the most expensive thing was the portable Li-Poly battery pack which can charge an iPod and power the amp (has 2 USB ports and a multitude of DC plug ends and phone jacks) - $60. All found on Amazon.

Cut holes in the lid with a little Xacto compass I have. The lid was only vinyl covered paperboard. The end of the case with the amp and jacks has a thin layer of plyboard in it, so cutting through that with an Xacto was a bit more tedious. Then I wired everything up for a test run. All went well, but I wanted portability, so I searched for a battery source and found one made by Anker that's 10,000mAh. Spent most of my time tracking down the matching 2.1mm Philmore DC power jacks and soldering up connector wires for an externally mounted A/C-D/C jack and the mini stereo jack was also individually cut and soldered. Added RCA jacks next to the mini stereo jack and then cleaned up all the wiring with woven plastic loom material and hotglued it into place. I picked up an AC adapter from Radio Shack, but I'm not happy with it...one because it was $33 and two because it has these cheesy little modular plug ends. Going to look for a cheaper option that just has a regular 2.1mm plug. Radio Shack has dumbed down their electronic components inventory, so that you don't have to really know anything to work there. Fry's has a better selection for that kind of stuff, but their location is F-A-R for me.

This was the inspiration. $$$$

I've been testing the battery pack (at a moderate volume in my office) and its been running 90 minutes nonstop...still going.

That is very cool. What about installing a couple ubolts on either side od the amp to provide some protection to the knobs?

I really want to see the battery.

That iPod sized thing at the back of the case IS the battery. I'm really impressed so far. It's been running since 8:30am and has only dropped 25-30%. I just plugged in my phone to the USB port, because I've been running Pandora and it was killing my battery. So now the amp and the phone are plugged into it. Gonna see how long it goes...

That's a really good idea. Might just use a cabinet door handle, like this.

So it looks like the expensive ones on that guy's site use the exact same $22 amp. The knobs are in the same config (even the blue led ring around the volume), but he moved the power switch and changed it to a metallic toggle switch.

Fender washers on the inside.

Battery pack dropped to 50% around the 4hr mark. Works better than I expected.
