If you go German make sure you get it check out by someone who knows them and is honest. If you get a good one they are great, if you get a bad one you will have $8K into one that price by next Christmas lol.

Maintainence is expensive and not much of a DIY.... Check out the price of tires and a brake job and you might run the other way.

going to look at the Jetta.

OK so who has ever shipped something large and heavy. Someone in texas talks like they want my drivetrain but I got to palletize it and ship. Uship or something?

I have used LandAir and Yellow (http://www.yrc.com/) do to shipping from the NJ/NYC area to ATL. Easiest way is to palletize the load and take it to the hub so they can pull it off a pickup with a lift, then have it picked up at the hub in the destination (or nearby). That is by far the cheapest route.

Often picking up / dropping off at a depot is the same price as having a shipment delivered to a commercial address with freight access. Depots also don't like holding freight for more than a day or so, after that they get all up your what what and start charging some significant fees. Also, freight costs from one company to another can vary drastically depending on a host of factors, which is why I use a brokerage. It costs me and therefore my customers less to ship, I get better coverage, and the brokerage handles all issues with shipping.

http://www.foobert.com/carhunt.html - TDI search

Good TDI forum http://forums.tdiclub.com/forumdisplay.php?f=51

Do your research. The Autos do not hold up to mileage like the Manuals. I have come close to going the TDI route a few times, but job changes have kept me from pulling the trigger. I drive ~ 50 miles round trip to work now, not crazy but it does add up. Whne I was driving to BMW I came real close to doing something. I heard the VW guy in Easley? is good.

(Be sure to get one checked out, maint isnt as bad as BMW/Merc but still more than a Yota, nothing most of us in tclub could not handle. Timing belt is the most important part that has to be done on the TDI, next is trans maint with the autos.)

bought the jetta. Has 74000 miles on it interior was in good condition other than hinge on the console broken. Small stuff here and there but much better than the altima i totaled. Insurance paid out fairly well so next the cruiser gets rewired via trollhole and possibly a military trailer if i or steve can find what i want. It is an auto but i think it will be ok.

You can try U Ship, or if you can get it securely stapped to pallets I can arrange shipping via my freight broker.

going to try to get a pallet and take it to work and strap it down and weigh it. Will give u a hollar after that!
