I am new to forums and this is my first Land Cruiser, first Diesel, first turbo, first 4x4 vehicle so I will be posting a TON of questions haha once I figure out how the forum platforms work.

Country of Origin: Japan. (Kumamoto to be more specific) I bought it while living in Nagasaki
Mileage: 225,300 Km
Intended Use: Daily. Visiting National Parks (Sequoias done). Next will be Yosemite and Death Valley.

I have worked on cars since childhood with my dad being a body man. I got into mechanical after that and I am learning about electrical and I think this is a great platform to learn about it all!

I honestly don’t know anything about them but I love the way they look also. The wheels have these recessed valve stems too that I’ve never seen

So you've heard of drunken Amazon shopping, this was one of those type of nights. Always wanted a Land Cruiser, but have always been a Jeep guy. Well ran across this gem while stationed in Japan and picked it up knowing nothing about Land Cruisers. Mainly because I can import a vehicle home for free after this tour. Been following IH8mud and a few others as well as diving deep into the diesel world of research. Anything stick out to you ladies and gents from the pics? A few minor rust spots that seem to be surface only. What I know so far, it's a 1991 JDM RHD 5 speed 1PZ on 35s. 190,000km on it. Timing belt as well as full service just completed. Waiting to get the details of the maintenance records translated to see exactly what else was done recently, as well as the lift inches, etc. t's a second vehicle so looking forward to the build that is ahead of me. I can rebuild an airplane, so this should be a piece of cake right? Criticism as long as its constructive is welcome. But paid cash so there's that.

They're Epsilon Japan Frontline BigHalfs that someone has spent a great deal of time building. Great looking 3 piece wheel.

Just picked this up last week.

Had some issues while driving home.
Was cruising in 5th at around 3100 rpms going 115kmph. Suddenly the green turbo light went off and red light came on and stayed on. Whenever i came to a complete stop for a few mins at the tool booths the red light would turn off and the green light would come on for 1st-3rd but as soon as i would hit 2500 in 4th green light would turn off and red light would come on. At that point only had a quarter tank of diesel. Pulled over at the next gas station to check it out everything seemed fine, filled it up with diesel and got back on the highway. 1st to 2nd seemed fine but as soon i put it in to 3rd started bogging like crazy, blowing clouds of gray smoke, couldnt get it above 2300
Sometimes it would go back to normal and the boost light would come on for a few seconds then go back to bogging and limping. At first i thought it was a turbo
Issue but it started going crazy after i filled it up, so i realized it had to be a fuel issue.
Drove it home like that changed the fuel filter next day first couple miles after the filter change it was still bogging and losing power but after pumping it and starting it mutliple times it started running fine boost seems to be working fine. Red light only came on once since doing the filter in 5th with heavy load. Still feel like its losing a bit of power, and running rougher than it was when i first test drove it. Hopefullt i didnt damage anything by limping it home.

Hello,

Nice 78 Series.

Keep in mind that the 2L-TE engine is rather small for a vehicle this size, and prone to problems.

Go easy on the turbo. If I remember correctly, the red light indicates excess boost. You may want to slow down and allow the turbo to spool/cool down. Otherwise, you are in for serious damage.

The 2L-TE's issues are well documented here. The search function is your friend. Check @GTSSportCoupe 's threads on how to make this engine more reliable.

You may also have a leak.
