Not trying to be a smartass in anyway, but isn't grade 8 hardened steel? So under pressure wouldnt it just snap? Or like you said shear? Try a non hardened type of hardware, as this way it will stretch instead of shear and youwon't need to replace them so often? Just my 2 cents.... good luck!

FYI, grade 8 is hardened and will shear before it really bends much, but it will shear at a much higher stress than say a grade 5 or 3 bolt.

If you downgrade the bolt, it will just fail sooner.

I posted this in the tools section, but it may get more play here:
Can someone tell me who makes this brake line bender?
And where I can get one?

I hate the multi line size ones, I like that the handles are inline, simple easy to use, can't find it..

Just did a quick Google search on small tubing benders. Looks like Pitsburg tool has the style you seek.... (picture posting denied)

Hmmm seems even though my Paypal accounbt shows I paid my Star isn't red....Yo Woody?

There seems to be several brands out there....check out http://www.bonaero.com/ToolTime.htm

hey man there is a little tool shop here in Longmont that seems to have a ton of great tools. Tri-State tools. I'll give a look for ya man. They seem to have great prices too.

Thanks for the heads up Nick, I had already ordered that bender from the link I posted above, received it last week :)

How bout a weak update? I have been working on this project a little here and there but don't really have much to show, mainly just cleaning up things and fixing neglected things. Several half built parts. Here is one:

I am more excited about this than I should be. The plate is flush against the frame and nothing touches but I will probably space it down a 1/4" or so. The triangle plats are part of the new wrap bar. I got rid of the sight tube because it was taking up space I needed.

Carb time!

I had some clearance issues with my air filter and master cylinder.

So I got a new filter and cut up the old top cap to move the assembly over.

I also took this time to go ahead and modify my webber to allow it to run a little more off camber :)

Got the new Brake lines on the chassis done:

Got my staging brake tweaked and mounted:

Wrap bar x-member is fabricated, final clocking is yet to be determined:

The new shocks are going to have to go thru the floor, I couldn’t really figure out how to make that happen, so I cut the x-member out and made a bolted connection:

Not to be the guy to piss on your progress, but rigidly mounting brake lines between the frame and the body is only asking for them to fatigue, crack and fail. The body and frame flex at different rates. That is why you see a coil of brake line before the frame fitting; to take up this flex and not cause stress cracks.

I would make a line similar to the factory on that side if it were me. Something like this picture from Marv's Website.

I considered putting a coil in, there is several feet between mounting points and the line is an inch off both frame and body, it should allow for plenty of movement. My body is also solidly connected to the frame, should be fine. My old lines were way ghetto and never had an issue

So is mine, and it is very fascinating to watch someone else operate my truck and see how much things really do move around.

It is one big coil, when/if it break you can be the first to tell me 'I told you so' :D

It will be easy enough to splice in a coil
