Try some of that Mylar bubble wrap stuff, I wonder if it might keep some heat in/out too….

And so it begins. 1984 Mercedes 380SL. Babs II. It'll be a 620SL when done. Rough plans currently, LS3/5 or 6 speed manual, Mustang II based front suspension, IRS, not sure what flavor quite yet. Join sub frame, small hoop roll bar with seat bars, if possible, contoured to seats, bars going back to frame rails. Move seats back if possible, possibly move foot well forward on driver side. European bumpers and skirts, possibly European single headlights. Aftermarket HVAC, rewire entire car. New drop top, new interior, full paint. A laundry list of little things.
Pull out motor and trans free to a good home.

Go with a 6 speed. .50 6th gear so you can run the most agressive diff gears you can find. Great project, glad you're finally getting to it. Turn the engine into a coffee table.

Decided to build out our 4Runner. Really wanted to build out the 200 but it's so good stock I didn't want to screw it up. We bought it new 10 years ago, its got 138k on and outside of brakes, maintenance, and tires weve done nothing. There is a ton of aftermarket support, they've sold 1 million of them the last 15 years so there will always be parts. My son is having fun with it which is great. It wont be unique, but still should be fun. Working on wiring for the winch, installed skids, lights, I decided to go with a 200a circuit breaker to act as a switch and protection. After a lifetime of projects going wrong, its nice when things work out.

PM sent. A buddy of mine may want it.

Stan, I’m on my way with Project WTF to burn in motor mounts, rear frame box kit, and spring out boarding. Man, you finished that just in time!!

I'm afraid it is booked out for the next little while. If all goes well there will be a Mercedes sitting on it by days end tomorrow. :)

@NCFJ foiled again. Drats! Haha!!

Looking forward to Heathers drag car being on the frame table.

LOL, Heather owns the other 380SL, the first one. After we had it a little while and were driving it she came to me one day and handed me an envelope full of cash. She told me she was keeping this one and I'd have to buy another one to Frankenstein.
This car is being built for the twisties, by no means a drag car :)

Last 3 times I needed a trailer I had to borrow one due to my 18ft car hauler having bent axels.
I ordered new axles a few months ago and they finally showed up.

The old trailer has served me well for 15 years so I wasn’t quite ready to let her go.

I upgraded the axles to 2x 5k axles on it with all new suspension, electronic brake controller, lights, and wiring.

Trailer is now ready to serve me another 20 years.

I still want to paint it and replace the wood but I will do that at another time.

Stan, you know those come with a 560 also.
I love my sl500, but the hydraulic suspension can be a nightmare. mine is good, and I love the way it flat turns.

But they don't come with a 620 :)

It's getting lighter!!!!

Currently looking at a Heidts Mustang II Universal front suspension. I might get lucky and they already have a set up that fits.

Similar to this, will most likely go with a power rack

WOW!!!! am I sick of looking at wheels. Nothing strikes me at all. This is for the Benz.

I really like Chevy Rally wheels, don't know if they would work or not. Anyway, just a rant before I go :)
