This thread is to help ocdbeetle get the numbers he needs to build my troopy soft top.

I was lucky enough to find an Aussie NORFORCE troopy top (the truck was rooted!) and i thought i would graft that rubbish onto my old troopy.

after searching a bit for soft top info, i decided to go with a new one from ocdbeetle.

you'll see why.

first pic is factory bows, modified for the army top, and a couple more.

it's "almost" all there, a few parts are missing but mostly it's bent and rough. the canvas is wasted.

any ideas/info and thoughts appreciated.

couple more...

i'm not going to be using the side or back bits. it's missing pieces and i want to run half doors in the back.

just putting them in the pic for reference (and to hold it all together).

the bottoms of some bows have been cut down, but easy enough to fix back to stock height.

it's really too bad the top is in such rough shape, i do like it.

the front and rear bows look to be the same as 40 ones, but the mid bows are 2 inches shorter (and there are 2 of them) the one in the middle is it's own.

i've got 42 1/4 for the mid bows. that's x2

dont know if this helps,
we decided to put bi folds with removeable top frame,
we ended up making the bows, and then fabing up the rear bi folds with the slots to remove the frame..then we made the door frames,
we made this clasp up on the back cross bow as it will look prettier than just flattened and welded tube.
Looks like your just having a full roll down rear, or will it be split.

lomusass: as cool as the split rear soft doors are, i don't like them. the full roll down back (like a 40) will work best for me. looks better too IMHO. i can't imagine that the sides (or the back) will be down that often once i get the soft top on;)

the bows do have the little extra tab piece for the split doors (type B soft top), but i did not get the extra parts with that top. i can only assume that the Australian Army got those trucks as factory soft tops and then mod'd them to suit.

southbostonfj: thanks mate, but i'm getting one built;) i did check out your web site. what would a set of mounting brackets set me back? (you can see the ones in question in the pic #2 lomusass just posted).

ocdbeetle: yes, that is what i'm after. two big windows on the sides and the same as the 40 back (with the little corner windows). i guess that will be a little different than an original troopy top, as i have not seen any pics of one that are the same as a 40 series, just longer. the back of the troopy tops don't look like they came with the corner windows (that could be a split door thing?).

i'm thinking OD/green with the green tint windows, should look good on my beige troopy.

Hope these two pics help a little bit
first is my BJ43 with half /ambulance doors
second a 45 .
Construction of the roof bows / doors are the same on both trucks
only the length of the side parts and the number of the middle parts are different.

would do the small windows on the side and the rear like they are in the ambulance doors and no corner windows, just my two pence ;)

Vielen dank Peter,

yes, windows like the yellow troopy, but with the corner windows in the back, like a 40.

small windows would look a bit lost on all that canvas on the sides, and the corner windows in the back won't change the look from the side.

in the attached pic, the rear window looks to be the right size and shape for the side windows as well.

any more detailed pics of that dark troopy in your first post? or do you have an epc scan of the part numbers?

cheers

a) It`s your truck and your choice ;)
b) no, I don`t think so, I like this little " secret" windows side and rear.
c) The corner windows will scratch a lot over the years if you pull the roof off and on.
I own my BJ43 30 years now  and mounted this vinyl top up and down more than 500 times or more ( haven`t counted it) and the top is in good shape for it`s age.
My side plastic windows are renewed twice.
On the ambulance doors I made another construction to put glas windows in.
c) sorry no other pics and parts are no longer available.

OK.....plenty of time to decide on the rear quarter windows...For me, Next is to get installed bow measurements.....Either your bows or find someone who's got bows installed....I'll come up with a diagram showing the measurements I need.....

any idea who bought this troopy? has it shown up here on mud yet? i'd like to get a few detailed pics of how the soft top attaches to the tub.

specifically the "center" bits of the soft top.

anyone else here on mud running a factory soft top on a troopy?

I knew where it was a while back. It was having a custom roll cage installed. Wouldn't be surprised to have it show on on Ebay. It was bought by some one who seems to flip them. It wasn't Vintage Offroad either. If it's still at the shop where the roll cage was being installed there is a chance of some better pictures. If not I doubt it. I see if I can find out. I didn't notice the for sale thread until after it sold other wise it might be in my garage now.

some detailed pics of this area would be awesome! i'm still not sure how the top is attached there. footman loop and strap or???

i've looked and looked, and i can't find many good pics online.

seemed like a good price for a clean troopy, it was wrong hand drive IIRC. i doubt it will sell for that again. ah well... flippers.:meh:

I think it`s attached with this "little knobs" (sorry don`t know the english name for them)
you can see in this pic, my 43 have 5 "knobs" on each side. One knob behind the front doors is covered from the top part which is secured in the channel too)
dsc00449qn.jpg

so I`m sure they did the same in the middle area of the 45 top.
Pic of the yellow 45 make me pretty sure ( not 100 % ;) ) for that.

...unbelievable price for that saudi arabian troopy ,cheap, cheap , cheap, I have seen some troopies in the Emirates and Oman and they were very clean, no rust.... it`s a dry heat in that area.
Congrats too the new owner.

"klein stuck" ;) (sorry, no umlaut on my keyboard)

i wondered about that. but that would make sense, it would attach like the piece just behind the door opening .

pic stolen from ocdbeetle's soft top thread.
