About the "need" for two spares. I've never had issues with my BFG tires in thousands and thousands of miles of Baja and Mainland Mexico, as well as hundreds of thousands of miles here in the US. I know folks will take two spares through Africa, but other than that, I really think it's just extra weight. Spend the $ you'd spend on a second spare on a good set of tubeless tire repair tools and a patch kit/compressor.

I respectfully disagree. I am sure you have been many many miles off into nowhere on backroads in Baja. Ever had a tire go 60 miles off the next settlement, like on the Vizcaino peninsula? Basically then you are driving and hoping that the others will hold up. you have no safety net anymore, and with the next flat you are walking.

In Michael's case, on the last trip, he ran over some concrete blocks on the road right around a curve, and both tires on the right side went (no chance of patching 10 square inch holes with a kit).

A second spare is little weight compared to the ease of mind it provides. Carrying the patching kit in addition certainly does not hurt.

Mike ,whats that coming out of the floor where the PTO shifter normally goes?

Just the floor, the rubber mat is torn in the spot where the PTO would go, just looks funny in the picture.

No it was titlted and registered in FLA. I have no idea how it came into the states, just saw it on Ebay and bought it and had it shipped to California. Like I said at that point I just got lucky at DMV.

I've heard of people titling stuff in other country's that was not legal. Something about not honoring an insurance claim and crushing it ASAP after it's found out...

I think in one story it was crushed after a ticket or something...

That is a true story that happened up in Canada, it is a complete urban myth as far as the US goes (from what I can tell).

Well I tried to sell it to someone else, and as time went on I took it on a 2 day trip out to Anzo and really liked it, then of course I put a turbo on it, and at that point I decided I would keep it, then of course after the injector pump problem and investing in a brand new one, I definently had to redeem its reputation and the rest is history.... OR you can blame it all on Jan, he is the reason I now am building this expedition rig :D

I used to think two or three spares might be overkill, until I had this incident (the one Jan speaks of). I was so glad that Jan had two tires or I would be in trouble. Here is picture of one of the tires, this tire is junk. I am grateful that I decided to stick with factory Steel wheels, they were able to center them again and reuse them for some new ones once I got back to the states. I also used to have a 9.5 wide tire for the spare to save on space (last pic) but I will stick to the same size that I am running from now on.

First off, great Troopy and great expedition build.

I was curious about which turbo set up you installed...

I higher recommend the Turboglide turbo, it is awesome, and one of the easiest to install, I did mine in a few hours, and you use the existing exhaust manifold. Really resonably priced, I bought mine from Turboglide and had it shipped fedex, with shipping and everything it was around 2k US.

What are your plans for the back cago area? Just slide out storage boxes?

I am not sure, that was the original plan, but I was going to have to have the slideouts shipped from south africa or OZ so I decided to build my own, then once I built the shelf, I found that I really do not need the slide out tray. I think I will work on the right storage boxes to fit in the back and I should be fine. Still working on it.

Nice to see your troopy is still looking great. BTW, when is the HZJ75 pickup going to be finished and for sale? Its status hasn't changed in over a year it's been listed on your site. :hillbilly:

Not that I'd even be able to afford it anyway. Just wish I could get me one of them like that.

Not there. it is an almost fully enclosed bay, and this was by far the highest tide I have ever seen there. It is a wonderful place, with differences of about 6 meters in low and high tide. great fishing too. on that trip we caught a tuna from the shore right there.
Anyway, a slight rise in sea level might rendered the camp side slightly wet :D

You are very welcome anytime. I keep you updated. The current plan is to go to see the whales in the San Ignacio Lagoon in March (and hitting the spot above on the way back), and to do a longer trip in July (down to Loreto, crossing over to the pacific near San Xavier, up to Scorpion bay, Ignacio Lagoon, and back).
