Something isn't correct w/ all those photos, notice the tread pattern on the tires for the 'undercarriage pics' which seller sent you do not match the tread pattern in the pics posted on eBay. Also, Seller likely did not do full re-cover on the leather seats. I am guessing he re-painted the bumpers, and used something like this on the seat leather to make it look better and to save some $.

Car Restoration Paint | Interior & Exterior Auto Paint | ColorBond

You won't be able to tell if seats were 'painted' w. this crap unless you fly out there an look w. your own eyes. Same on the undercarriage based on the mis-matches in tire tread patterns . the other thing (which is my pet peeve) you can't tell if this rig was owned by a chain smoker or not unless you also sit in it and take a whiff yourself ... caveat emptor....

Andrew, make a run at this one. You might be surprised at what it goes for. Haven't seen an 80 on BAT in several months. This one looks honest, no lipstick rig. Guessing it will go for less than what ebay seller said you could get the ebay one for in PA....

1997 Toyota Land Cruiser

You can clearly see the oil leaks, no cover up, and that the HG was recently done (double check sellers receipt) because @ 200k+ miles they ALL will need a HG and valve job.... Then good to go another 200k miles.

That’s a beautiful truck. Thanks man

Nice find--we should start a pool on the final selling price...

Looks nice however the bottom was recently painted black. The steering knuckles should be bare metal. Would have been nice to see a before and after on the undercarriage repaint.

Nice catch!

I also spy what likely could be a worn inner axle seal in that pic.

For those interested, I did pass on this truck. I had actually placed a deposit on it, but the more pictures I saw, the worse I felt about buying it. Got my deposit back.

As to the dealership. They have perfect reviews on eBay. That is undeniable. But what I also noticed, was that I was contacted via phone, outside of eBay, and the wheeling and dealing was done over the phone, and not through eBay messages either. The dealership also insisted that I pay my deposit through a separate PayPal invoice, and not through the eBay interface. Because of this, Any sort of issue that may have arisen after the purchase, for example, being really disappointed with the truck and the dealership, would not show up on eBay. Therefore, one can only assume, that the dealers are using this method to prevent their ratings from dropping, while providing sub par vehicles.

Another huge red flag for me, was the small print in their bill of sale. It basically stated, that anything they may have told me about the car over the phone could not be held against them when I purchased the truck. Basically, they could lie their asses off about it, and I would have no recourse. Another red flag; when I asked about any panels or the underside being repainted, they told me they could not provide an answer. I asked him to clarify this. They said they have no way of knowing what has and hasn’t been painted, and could not tell me any more than that. Therefore, I believe that the underside was in fact, painted. I would also guess that several panels were painted, including the bumpers, obviously. Who knows what else.

Caveat emptor.

Very nice clean non corroded triple locked 40th, well worth 15-20k any day, better hope you can get it for that.

Was painted to hide the corrosion you can tell if you know what to look at, without seeing in person hard to say, but can tell you hoses and heater valve are original so you will do another couple grand in base lining it

Little things: floor mats are wrong. Should have 40th Anniversary logo embroidered. These are NLA and sell for $500+ when offered.

Bumpers look color-matched to me...but may be my screen. Should be same dark grey as side trim.

Didn’t read. Is interior original or recover? Steering wheel has a cover.

Last thing is to make sure axel code is for a locked rig. There were some 80s being sold 10 years ago with the locker dial added but no lockers.

If it’s an honest truck, I’d say it’s high-side ballpark.
Very strange that it appears to be in such great condition but doesn't have the 40th floor mats. For that price you'd think they'd get the real thing to complete the vehicle.

This seller has a bunch of FZJ80’s in a warehouse. I live an hour away and he offered to setup an appointment so I can look and drive it. I never did. I bought an 80 for my daughter and I wasn’t looking for a perfect example rather maybe a “slight” project priced lower that we could work on together, so that’s what we did. I’ll admit the whole process he uses to sell is a little unconventional and It spooks people off. But these things are getting harder and harder to find and you just have to pull the trigger if the basics are there. I wouldn’t be that concerned over paint on the undercarriage as long as it’s not rust painted over. Surface rust can start on a 2 year old car let alone a 20 plus year old. In fact if I found one that was rust proofed I’d be happy. Northeast roads are eating up new cars. If we’re talking a west coast rig it doesn’t matter.

Well, these trucks are far from perfect. For the price they are charging, they should be pristine. Way too many things were incorrect. No offense, but your joining date may lead others to suspect you might be affiliated with the dealership.

Ha, no not affiliated with any used car dealer Thank God! I’ve lurked here for years and had a Landcruiser 8 years ago. I just joined a few days ago to locate running boards for an LX450 I just bought for my daughter. And I’ve looked for over a year and came across this guy. During my search there was a guy in NC who want 22k for one. So the prices are all over . I don’t think this one is way high but slightly higher than normal. To each his own I guess.
