Transmission ?

I have an 91 fj80... Trans is screwed up? Called around To see about getting rebuilt they want crazy $$$ locally to do the job!

I can't find one here on mud? So my question is anybody swap out tranny to something else?
Any help would be great!!!

Also looking for alternatives to an A440 replacement...All I have found is a couple of threads (one really detailed write up) of 440 rebuilds. IIRC the rebuilds didn't end well, and as you mentioned they were $$.

There are a few machine shops that pop up quick on a google search that make custom bell housings and torque converters. I haven't contacted anybody but from what I've seen it looks possible to swap in a GM or other transmission to an 80 series. I was thinking a stand alone controller, custom torque converter, bell housing, and tcase adapter and it could work. I suppose a custom cross member, drive shafts, and overall fitment would be a concern though. I'll keep searching but the short answer is I haven't seen any auto swap options for an 80 series.
Most folks seem to find another used one worth swapping from what I have read.

Cheapest option is to find someone parting out their truck and buy their used and hopefully good transmission and swap it in.

As already mentioned, I would look for a good used tranny and swap it out.
