Any opinions on what would be considered normal operating temperatures for a 100 series Landcruiser Toyota automatic transmission? Looking for upper limits. I hit 215 for less than a minute the other day while motoring up a dirt trail, it was about 100 outside and I was pulling my off road trailer. Once I shifted into 4 low the temp came right down. Didn't think it was really that steep. I have a ScanGauge so that was how I knew what the exact temp it got up to was.

Thanks

I know 22x towing up steep grades will not cause permanent damage on the 4spd

Mine hit 215 in traffic once, replaced the fan clutch and now I rarely break a 200. Normal driving temps tend to be around 130-160 for me. Going up hill will put it in the 180-190 range and on some tough hills with a loaded car I will break 200 for a minute.

I find it helps to use the PWR button with overdrive off or manually use the 2,L when going up hills.

Different transmissions will hold up differently......but this is probably pretty accurate with respect to how most ATF's will act.

I think in the case of the A343F.....230°F (ish) should start to have you concerned and taking action to reduce temps.
