Recently my Fj62 has hesitated when I put in drive and hit the gas its like its in neutral for about 5 seconds then kicks into gear. It just revs a bit then kicks in. this happens very infrequently and after it has sat for awhile. Is this something I need to worry about or just a simple cable adjustment? My transmission was rebuilt in 2019. Any ideas or suggestions?

This has happened maybe 5 times now. Thanks in advance.

No reason you shouldn't get it fully hot (drive-on-the-highway-in-the-summer-hot) and check the fluid level with the engine running in Park (after rowing through the gears). Also check the kickdown cable per the FSM. Your transmissions behavior is definitely not normal. To me, this sounds like low fluid, or low pressure, which after revving, allows enough pressure to engage. But, do all the basics (above) before assuming the worst.

When you’re checking the fluid smell the dipstick. If it smells burnt, you may want to change all of the fluid and clean the screen.

I'm getting ready to change some cooler lines and I'll be in the need of transmission fluid. Any one brand I should look at? I know it calls for Dexron ii but what do you all use?
Thanks for the help, J

Thanks for the info, It's my understanding that anything Dexron II and forward can be used. Any disagreements with this?

Dexron III is about all you can easily get (Dex II hasn't been sold anywhere for years). There are many raging online debates as to whether DexIII and IV are interchangeable. Dex IV is a lower viscosity, synthetic fluid. I'm sticking with Walmart's 'Dex III' compatible fluid for now.
