I have a question for you more experienced 80 gearheads. Potato Doug, Turbo mad scientist, and all the rest of you.

AS I look into the empty engine bay of my 80, I see the twin transmission cooler lines are very limp and seemingly saturated at this point. I would like to find a way to connect a braided steel flex line to replace the rubber.

Any of you boys ever done this?

Let me hear from ya.

Dan

too much work dan. the fittings are all for push on hoses. you could do push on stainless braided line but it wouldn't offer much from a performance standpoint if the line was just push on hose clamps vs real screw on fittings. just replace the rubber hoses with more 3/8 "transmission" line from autozone etc.

I took the liberty of putting a screw on filter in series with the line going into the trany cooler. just use a $15 3/4-16 thread remote filter adapter avail from summit racing.

I like the looks and sound of that. Got any more pics?

Why I oughtta!..........

Agree there's no point in replacing a low pressure hose with braided stainless - just get some fresh hose and replace it like you should also be doing to the heater hoses at 10 years or so in hot climates. Cooler climates it will last longer, or replacing with a very high grade will last longer this time. Spend the money saved on something else, like replacing all your drivetrain fluids.

sorry friend these are all the pics i got. real easy to mount. i have mine inside my custom bumper now but orriginally i just made a simple bracket that bolted to those threaded 8.8 holes in the front of the frame rails

Now that is what I call real American enginuity!

3/8 inner diameter or outer?

I took my hard lines off and had an fittings welded to the ends and used fittings and lines from frozenboost.com to my factory cooler with an fittings welded on. I think I'm going to use a filter adapter also like Dusty!

Good morning mud, does anyone know the part numbers for those two rubber transmission lines at the bottom of the radiator?

I'm having difficulty finding the right factory drawing displaying the hoses.

Thanks

Doesn’t matter. They are discontinued
Thanks Beno

I found 1 32941-60110 but I'll have to wait till tomorrow to see if they even have it.

So what are your thoughts on a popular alternative? Gates 3/8? The braided stainless steel route with AN connectors? I think @NLXTACY has some fittings I saw online.

Typically when I start a project like this I like to just do it all at once. Like the power steering project I'm planning redhead steering box, power steering pump all hoses. As a research this I'd like to replace everything in the transmission cooling lines.

I think I need to just make a kit and get it over with. There is enough hood info in this thread that I don’t need to recreate the wheel.
You just made my day Joey. I'm in for the kit, please take my money now 🍻

Hopefully I'm first in line

I believe the longer hose with the 90° bend is still available, but the rest discontinued a couple years ago.

I just completed this job with 3/8" ID transmission oil cooler hose from CarQuest, which I believe is also stocked by advance auto. My napas had no stock and O'Reilly's is not local. I bought all 9.5' they had, and have 18" or so left. I recreated the 5 hoses in the front of the motor. None of the oe tension clamps I have were small enough so I used #6 sized clamps.

For the 90° bent hose I used a Continental ez coil meant for holding a bend in 1/2" heater hose.

I also added spiral wrap where the factory hoses had chafe protection. I wasn't able to recreate how the factory doubled up the hose thickness.

I wish all the hoses were still available from the dealer.

was a kit ever created ? Thanks !

Gates tranny oil cooler hose, SAE 100R6, 3/8" id. Available at Advanced Auto Parts, among others prolly.
Rated to 400psi and 275Farenheit.
The 15mm constant tension clamps from Bel-Metric fit these perfect with a little silicone to slide them over the nipple bulge.
