Hi All,
After a prolonged period of no usage (about 1 year), I started my '94 LC and I'm having some issues with my transmission (it was OK when last used).

When I take off in (D) drive, it seems to be taking off in 2nd or 3rd gear (haven't pinpointed it yet).
It will slip while trying to roll forward very slowly and I even get some shutter.

If I put the shifter into L1 it works great no problems at all, I can up shift to L2 then D and it all seems OK. RPM and Speedo work well also.
But it will not Downshift on its own while in (D) when slowing down, won't even kickdown when gas is fully pressed. I can downshift manually, and it seems to be OK.

Did a simple oil pan drain to check oil and it was quite dirty and followed by replacing those 4 quarts with some fresh oil.
Did use some seafoam transmission treatment just to see if it helped any, but still getting same issues.

Since I can shift manually, would this point me towards maybe a shift solenoid or Piston being stuck or worn?
Could it have anything to do with the speed sensor? Throttle cable?

Any pointers or test procedures before it goes to a SHOP for a very expensive service?

Thanks, in advanced to any that can shed some light.

It was inside, I live in P.R. so weather is a bit warm and humid.
That’s even more odd. My theory was maybe the winter months made stuff seize (assumed you lived somewhere up north where it snows etc).

I’m curious to know what people suggest the issue could be.

I would change the solenoids anyways even if it’s not the issue for the peace of mind since it’s like $200ish dollars in parts (if youre not buying from a Toyota dealer) and a days of work.

Thanks for the info, I just read a thread where someone mentioned that the A442F has a history of solenoids issues, so that sounds like a good place to start.

Check out that thread, member @Rdeschain recently changed his solenoids, he posted part numbers and a link to the dealership he ordered his parts from.

Awsome, will check that thread out

I will be in PR with the fam for vacay the week of 7/7. If you are in the San Juan area would be cool to meet, shake your hand, see your rig, and maybe share a cold beverage. :) We're staying in Playa Azul area.
