I have a 90 Extended Cab 4x4 22re/A340F and I found a 86 that has a 22R and a 5 speed in it. I just wanted to verify that the bell housing was the same for the 22r and 22re and to see if the pedal assembly, and master and slave cylinders would work in my truck.

Bell housing... yes
Master & slave... yes
Pedals... I think so

as I understand it. Yes.

Great, and from what I understand from reading this transmission will either be a G52 or G54 correct?

Look in the door jam, or under the hood on the fire wall and look for "C/Tr A/Tm"

That's Color, Trim, Axle, Transmission.

Tell us what the A and Tm are and we'll tell you...

One of those G's you stay away from, but it's rare and I think ADD only, plus I don't remember which...

also, you've more than likely got 4:30's in the AT'd truck. You'll have to bolt on a tire @ 2" taller than stock than the 5 speed truck came with to get the speedo to read more accurate... DANG! :D

And the OD on the AT is 500rpm and 250 on the 5speed... So depending on how you're setup and what you want out of it, you might get a little worse MPG... a little.

The G59 trans came on early 90's 4 cylinders with the ADD front axle, and has a chain driven transfer case. That's the one you don't want...

G52 came behind the 22R and the G54 is just a heavy duty (beefy bearings) version of the 52 I believe...

The truck I bought has had the motor and tranny swapped, so I am not 100% sure what it has in it. I was going to go get it this weekend, but we are supposed to get 8-12 inches of snow tonight so it will probably be next weekend. My truck now has 4.56's and 30x9.50 tires on it. I am not worried at all about the fuel mileage if it increases the power a little bit. My motor only has 30k miles on it, bored, larger cam, it runs good when you twist the piss out of it with the automatic.

i recommend installing the R151F turbo tranny for better gearing and 2x durability. Of course those things are very hard to find. O wait, I'm selling one in my sig! ;)
