I think that is correct. At least that is what the officer told me, $5 if you park your rig for camping, picnicking, hiking...... No need to pay if you just drive around, stop for restroom & gas.

That's what the book says, too........

So if we're just cruising through, no pass or permit needed?

The $5 pass is needed if you park your vehicle in the Red Rock area. If you drive and not get out you don't need it. If you use rest rooms, air down, eat lunch, etc., any length-of-time stop and you need the pass. It's $5 and takes 2 minutes to get. Yes, it's a rip.

"When is a Red Rock Pass Required?

A Red Rock Pass (or Golden Eagle, Golden Age or Golden Access) is required when recreating on National Forest land in Red Rock Country, a high-impact recreation area. The pass must be displayed in the windshield of the vehicle.

Vehicles parked on the National Forest in the red rock area that do not display a valid pass in the windshield are subject to receiving a citation.

A pass is not required for incidental stopping to take a photograph or to enjoy a scenic vista (approximately 15 minutes or less)."

Hmm ok...

Can't tell if the its a rip comment was sarcasm or not..

Should we plan on getting one of those passes? Was the group planning on stopping somewhere and relaxing...or just 347 quick 30 second stops on every rock or ditch to take a picture?

(I keeeeeed, I keeeeeed)

But seriously...?

The little red angry smilie guy tells me that John is unhappy with paying the fee and the comment was not made in jest.

it said somewhere up in one of his posts that we can pick up the permit just before we go on the trail?

Some trails have machines at the trailheads, but I don't know which ones. You can usually see signs along the side of the road saying that you can get your Red Rock Pass there.

I got mine (an annual) at the Circle K close to the Y. But I think all three of the Sedona Circle Ks sell them. Which means you can probably pick one up at the one in the Village, on your way in.

If you think you might come to Sedona to hike or wheel 4+ times in a year, it's worth it to pick up an annual pass for $20. They are issued on a rolling basis (e.g. April 06 to April 07) so it doesn't matter what time of year you buy one. They are also transferable (it's just a hanger that goes on your review mirror). So you can share it with friends and family.

IIRC, even if you do get ticketed, it's $5 - same price as a day pass.

So, I thought I would have the X in the shop having the gears installed by this weekend, but no. Well, that leaves me to wheel this Saturday:) Looking forward to OC Homestead too, should be the perfect place to picnic and maybe even go swimming  .

o.k. we are in. Wait for us if we are a wee bit late; making it up the big hill in the morning takes the cruiser some time......;)

Bowtie on the grill will fix that.

-Spike (figure out that obscure reference!)

bowtie is even slower than I up I-17  in fact, 2 weeks after I got the cruiser, we went up to visit with friends in Cottonwood; the cruiser did 55-60 constant or more, no sweat, while Michael lugged his 6600 pounds up there, progressively getting slower ;p How well it did on that long climb completely sold me on the cruiser :grinpimp:

actually, for Cruise Moab, the K5 is getting a Bezel :flipoff2:

Believe me (I know)- a 40 can move rather quickly with a bowtie on the grill. It doesn't really improve off-road performance on an otherwise stock truck, but it sure gets it moving on the highway! Of course, it gets really hot too.

I am just too much of a rational (metric) person to bother with the V8 stuff. Plus, I don't want to start breaking birfs; I prefer to keep wrenching above the waistline.........;p

Looks like I am going to make it.:D Is this the meeting place, Village Square Chevron?
sedona_map.webp

So that's 9am at the Chevron in town, CB 7?

Just in case anyone cares, I plan on coming tomorrow. If it rains and stuff will the trails be closed or anything. Last time I was up there they closed the Schnebly Hill Rd about halfway up when the snow was melting.

Hope to see a good cruiser turnout....:)

Bluecruiser, I've got three trucks from Surprise headed up tomorrow (including myself). Why not join us on the way up? Albertsons gas station on Grand and Reems tomorrow 7:15-7:30. Sedona is amazing when wet, foggy, even in the snow. If the weather is inclement tomorrow, consider yourself lucky to have seen what many may not.
So, CB 7 at 7, and we'll see the rest of y'all at 9 in Sedona.

Alright...headed to bed for at least a few hours sleep before this meet. I'll be out there at the gas station around 9, see everyone there!
