Question out of technical interest for John: the climbs out of the canyons on GreasySpoon where your truck slid a bit sideways and twisted: were you locked, or were you working this traction control thingy in the 100? It seemed that lockers and a slight bump should have sufficed; that's how the rest of us drove these spots. Or does the front not get enough traction due to the IFS not transferring enough weight (compared to SFA) on the drooped tire in this situation?

There's one spot on the 80 and 100 that hang you up....the rear control arm mounts. You can be locked up and if you catch those you don't move. You'll spin all four.

Ya...I could have bumped it. If both arm mounts hang (like they did in Moab on the Golden Stairs) then ya gotta bump it. I have 3/8" steel skid plates on these spots and angle iron on the arms. I believe in the crawl method though whenever possible. I noticed by watching Juan that I was too far to the right and hung on that rock. Juan was left and his wheel was on the rock instead of his control arm mount. So, problem here? Driver error.

The challenges on these trails are all within the capability of traction control alone. I did lock 3 or 4 times that day though to save trail and tire wear. 75% of the run was in AWD...center unlocked. It's no fun to take the easy lines. :)
