Went to pick up a set of spark plug tube seals/gaskets (11193-15010) from my local dealer today. As I was looking at the parts I noticed that the Toyota part label says Made in China on every one of the (six) small packets!!

So wondering, has anyone recently bought a set of spark plug tube gaskets and if so did you notice where they were made and/or can you check the labels to see where they were manufactured?

I'm wondering if all these seals are now made for Toyota in China or if maybe they're still made in Japan also, or??

It's just sad to see this happen, particularly coming out of China.

Not too long ago I picked up a new Toyota main engine harness, it was made in Vietnam. When compared side-by-side with another new engine harness that was made in Japan there was a small but obvious difference in the attention to detail between the two parts.

I checked NOK's website in Japan, looked like maybe more NOK plants in China than Japan itself.

:meh:

It is what it is.

I think as long as it's to spec, which includes a quality standard, it's totally acceptable (assuming this is not a made "here" vs "made there" discussion). A lot of high quality things are made in China, it's not fair to say otherwise as a blanket statement.

I saw "Made In China" on some other OEM parts I got from the dealer, hoses I think.

Well what do you know, saw this and it made me tear into a Partsouq box delivered this evening...

Hi, May be it’s just me, but I really don’t want to support a communist country who wold love to see our country collapse. Killed many of our soldiers in Vietnam Nam. Not to mention they repeatedly deny human right to their own citizens. It is what it is ? ..Only if no one stands up , Maybe Im just old fashioned. Mike

Well it would be one thing if we were able to buy parts from Japan for a higher price but we chose to buy cheaper parts from China (supporting them) but you don’t have an option.

I’m going to buy my first Ford in decades.Kids bought a Suburban and will buy another.Mother in law just bought a Buick. There is something we can do.

So you’re not going buy another Toyota because the spark plug seals are made in China? Better not check and see where you’re cell phone is made or your TV

You may want to do some research about where vehicles are built. As one example:

Where are Buicks assembled?
Buick Envision

With models made in Germany, South Korea, the U.S. and China, Buick has an internationally diverse lineup for an American brand. The company's midsize crossover, the Envision, is built by General Motors' Chinese co-venture, Shanghai GM.

Yes. Spark plug tube seals are now made by NOK in China.

Globalism. You know... it’s been around for awhile.

Parts will continue to be off shored whenever quality can be achieved and money saved. That’s it. That’s the long and the short of it.

From what I understand, the KZTE head was cast in China. Most heads are good, a lot aren't. Look at my avatar and guess which one my was

1KZ engines have just as bad a reputation for cracking heads as the old 2L-TE engines did.

It’s always been my opinion that Toyota really didn’t get the engineering correct on a lot of those lower displacement 4 cylinder turbo engines of the late 1980s/early 1990’s.

1KZ’s for your market we’re most likely cast in Japan. But it’s just too long ago to know for sure.

Interesting. I tried to find info, but everything I found had that hose heads come from China. The bottom half is a hell of a strong engine. I hope I made the right call going with the AMC aftermarket head.

There's a good chance a Toyota Highlander is more "made in America" than any GM or Ford. Ford in particular has an assembly and supply chain that is very "hecho en Mexico."

You want 100% made in America, get a Tesla--that's pretty much the only one out there.

As the man says, "globalism." There's no getting around it.

I think about these issues/questions a lot and have been since my days in academia.

This really is the text to read of you want to understand how global automotive supply chains operate. And how designations like “Made in USA” are applied and the policy/strict rules that govern supply chains.

It’s a fascinating read.

“Made” and “Assembled” are two different things. For a lot of products that are assembled in NA they are made up of parts built in China, India, Taiwan or whoever the cheapest bidder was that could produce them to the customer’s specifications.

And it's not like it's a new thing. I was a counterman in the mid-90s at an independent parts store. Our catalogues always showed where engines were manufactured or where certain parts were from: South Korea, Japan, China, Tiawan, etc. Aftermarket parts were like that too: Russia, India, Mexico, etc.

I don’t mind made in Mexico or any other non communist country. Bought two tools today both made in USA, they were not the cheapest.
