I was under the impression that 15600-41010 has been discontinued.
Correct?

Luckily I have two on the shelf but when those are gone I'll switch to 90915-20004.

They have seemingly been discontinued for import into the US market.

IIRC, CDan has about 150 of these left.

He also has probably about 120 of the -20004 filters.

That said, his recent order for -20004 filters from Japan came up empty handed and they sent him -20004 filters made in Thailand by Denso and not in Japan.

That's a real bummer. We might be seeing the last of the good Japanese filters coming up here soon.

Well you can get the Napa gold 1515 filter which is a great filter. And it's made in the USA. Gastonia, NC to be specific.

And if you want the best filter with synthetic media go with a Wix 51515XP. They say it's the same as the Napa Gold 1515 but it's not. It's designed with better filtering and longer runs between changes. It's designed for fleet vehicles.

WIX XD Oil Filters

The WIX XD (extended drain) oil filter is engineered to increase the miles driven between oil changes by up to 50 percent, thus reducing down time and allowing fleets to significantly extend oil change intervals when combined with proper oil analysis. This could mean savings on oil, filters, disposal and maintenance costs that can add to the profitability of your fleet. Rigorous industry tests have shown that the WIX XD oil filter lasts longer, runs cleaner and more efficiently than the competition in both the sludge and the multi-pass tests and traps up to 50 percent more contaminants.

WIX XD oil filters feature patent pending “Spin Flow Technology” designed to increase filter life. The angled fins are placed where the oil enters the filter to start the process of directing heavy particles to the coarse filtration element in order to remove them from the oil. This allows the XD multi–density wire back media in the fine filtration element to trap finer particles and last longer. The XD high-strength media will trap the larger particles being “spun” down and will trap media clogging sludge.

I personally have run the NAPA Gold 1515 for years when I haven't had need to call Dan to order other parts, but I also noticed I get some cavitation sounds from the LX450 when I startup after it sits more than 4-5 days.

I personally think the greater surface area will make the 1515 a better filter to run on a daily started motor once we are down to all paper element choices, but the Japan Toyota filter Dan sells with the synth innards would be best for a recreational rig that sees longer downtimes between starts - that smaller case means you can't get a drainback since that 1-way valve holds decent on short timeframes, but they aren't 100% when you let your 80 sit a week.

I think for my LX450 that sits more than the Toy Cruiser I'll run one of those 90* jobs & a 1515 once Dan is out of good filters - the part that Romer (I think?) posted a few months back - IIRC it was a part from Summit or Jeg's - for a Fox body Mustang w/ a 5L/302 motor.

I doubt I'll bother with the 90* piece on the LC as it gets started everyday - these are just my plans and I don't claim expert status, I've just owned 1FZ's long enough to know the sound of a healthy running one.

Hopefully Dan can keep us all in the good filters - that really sounds like the prime way to play - the only other non-paper element I know is the Royal Purple ones, and I only buy those for my break-in cycles on whatever motor I am running at the time on a old '68 Camaro I own. - I cycle back & forth between the factory 302, a 327, and a bored 350 (I have a 454, just makes it a nose-heavy feel & I prefer the nimbleness of a SB) - whichever I feel like, but they all hold the filter vertically, so no cavitation.

I'd rather just spend 12$ a get a Mobil 1 filter ( supposedly good for 15k)

I'd rather just use the filters that are stocked at the dealership. I don't believe that the 1FZ cares one way or another what filter is on it.

Just say no to stuff that comes in orange boxes.

Yea I can stand corrected OEM or Mobil 1 :-)

As I recently used the last 15600-41010 from my stockpile I picked up some Napa Gold 1348s...they look awfully small, guess I should have looked at this thread again before getting them. Are the 1515s bigger?

Under high throttle situations the filter is all but bypassed.
I have a case of Toyota filters for each of the 3 Toys I have (they are about $40/10 on Ebay).
I run Mobil 1 and buy several cases at a time, all for convenience.
They all have 150K+ and I have never had an internal engine problem. I have had valve covers off of 2 of them and they were both spotless (Cruiser was one of them....wish I shot pics). The other was a known sludge motor 1MZ-FE and it was spotless as well. I also change my PCVs.
A lot of guys split hairs over this.
Amsoil is a better oil than Mobil one by 1% on last test I read. Spend $9qt or $5qt, I'm keeping the change....

I agree with the Napa Gold/Wix being a excellent filter. I will share my experience using the NG/Wix with lighter weight oil.

In the past I have run either the Napa Gold 1515 or Wix 51515 with Delo 15w-40 exclusively in my fleet (92, 93 and 96 LX). A few months ago I changed to 0w-40 Mobile 1 in the LX at 94k and immediately noticed a rattle (cavitation) on startup. I never experienced this issue with the heavier oil and big filters. With the lighter oil and big NG 1515 there was a 2 second rattle every morning on startup for a week. I swapped out the NG for a smaller toyota 90915-yzzd1 filter which completely eliminated the rattle.

I did purchase the Ford Racing 90 degree filter adapter but decided to hold off on installing it since the smaller filter seems to have solved the issue.

I have the dealership do all my oil changes on my 80. The oil filter they use is the 90915-YZZD3. Crappy filter?

Hey guys.. I was just wondering how good is the "small" toyota oem oil filter? I am currently using Wix 51515 oil filter and wanted to use Toyota OEM filter but my local dealer said that they no longer carry the big oil filter, only the small one. Are the small oem filter any good? Or should I just stick with Wix filter?

This is the one you want. http://www.amazon.com/Denso-150-100...qid=1420067228&sr=8-1&keywords=denso+150-1003

It's only $3.11 @ rockauto >> http://www.rockauto.com/

I change my own oil, but use the same Toyota filter as you,,, which I believe is the Thailand Filter,,, could be wrong. Would be interested as well on what some members have to say about it.

Does it have the anti drain back valve built In? seems. To start well if sitting for more than 4 weeks.. I have used Napa gold filters on other vehicles, and they seem to do well,,, but for some reason, I seem to buy everything OEM Toyota for my Cruiser,,, must be my OCD for quality Toyota Parts....lol
