Just read this article about the new Toyota adventure concept vehicle. It's targeting the Millennials so it may not be of much interest in this crowd, but some of the innovative thinking is interesting. It also mentions some Xtracab, 4Runner, Land Cruiser DNA queues. Looks like a Scion xB/Rav 4/Storm Trooper had a baby.

interesting - all wheel drive with available with low range. Maybe to go head to head with the popular Subaru outback demographic?

based off the same platform as the new C-HR. kinda like how they hid the 2nd row door lines to give it a sporty 2 door appearance

I was going to say it looked like a Jeep Renegade and a Nissan Cube had a baby.

Geo tracker and Renegade.....

Resembles a Kia Soul

I think I'd rather have...

Looks like a car for someone who orders a gluten free veggie wrap instead of a burrito.

lift it, some 33's, an ARB ....

It might not be able to move out of its own way if you did that! I'm trying to remain objective and not hate, but it looks like a kia soul and jeep renegade had an affair....and the resulting baby was missing a chromosome or 2. But it's a Toyota so it will be reliable and slow

Even more fugly than the FJC. It should sell well in the US market. The MUD crowd is a small niche. Most Americans are only concerned with comfort and the latest style. A true badass utility offroad Toyota will never sell much here. It's why they've never bothered to make their more badass offerings US compliant. Too small of a market to bother with all the EPA crap.

I disagree with the statement that a true badass ute would not sell here. Marketing is so busy guessing what we want and ignoring places like this forum. They keep adding frills and taking away utility. Styling and gimmicks are only good if you are after a quick dollar. A true bad ass off roader would sell if it were at an affordable price point and was truly utilitarian. The sales on the Subaru crosstrek xv is proof of that.

This forum is a very small demographic of who would actually buy a new offroad vehicle. Most of us are looking at the 10yr or older category for vehicles to actually use offroad. Try to put a 2017 FJ70 whatever series on the market here, priced accordingly after making it US EPA compliant and see how well it sells. It won't sell well. It's not luxury enough for the US market and too expensive for most of us who would use it as intended. I believe you'd be looking at a 50k+ vehicle at least. Sorry, too much coin for most people. Those buying up 200 series AND actually using them offroad are a very small portion of buyers. Most Americans earn less than 100k/yr. Dropping 50+ on a vehicle is out of reach.
If you can't sell a lot of vehicles new, then there won't be many available on the resale market 10yrs down the road for those of us who will buy them. Like I said, the US market for real utility is too niche for any company to really chase after any more.

Last utility oriented was FJ40, hence the legendary status of these things.......................agreed Yota not getting what made the FJ40 a legend apparently.

Up until this last iteration, the wrangler has been a pretty basic utility vehicle, sales numbers would seem to disagree with there being no market. Loaded models are hitting the $50k mark too.
