again why are we spending 15$ for an oil filter?

Because it's a ~50,000 dollar truck? :meh:
Or at least it was at one time.....

He has a valid point. I tip pretty far toward the over-maintenance side of the scale, but I've yet to see a 2UZ fail due to lubrication issues (or any other mechanical issue). Hard to believe there's any tangible benefit to something other than my M1-209 at $7.95.

The very thought process that killed the 90915-20004.

The masses are satisfied with "good enough to work" instead of the "best possible one".

Different levels of satisfaction, I suppose. No less no more.

By the way the current Toyota filter lists for $5.41.

I'd gladly spend $15 bucks for them. Where can I get them?
The filter in my girlfriends VW Golf is almost twice as long as the "standard" Toyota filters I've been using for the 100.

the jdm only oil filter is the assembly line filter your Toyota comes with.
it has better and denser filtration media specially to keep the engine free of fine metals that break down during the engine break in process, results in a lot less wear and tear due to oil circulation.
of course those are the filters you should go for otherwise get a good aftermarket replacement such as MANN HUMELL.

So I thought these are made somewhere other than Japan now? I am down for a dozen or 2 when someone grabs them. I have wasted $15 to $20 on a s***ty meal a time or 2 to treat my Landcruiser nicely.

Yep, Toyota moved the 20004 to Taiwan an it weighs half what it used too.

Purely a profit motive on their part

Thailand actually.
