Hey all,
We’ve recently started hearing a high pitched tone coming from the right rear of our truck (2011 gx460). It is coming from under the cover near the plug outlet. Assuming the inverter must be there & it is making the noise. Anyone ever have anything similar & if so what is the fix? I’m assuming it needs to be replaced, but don’t really want to start pulling covers & plastics before I know more.

Thanks for any insights anyone might have!
Abe

What are the circumstances of it occurring?
  • Only when the engine is on?
  • When the ignition is on, but not the engine?
  • Only when driving?
  • When the stereo is on?
  • Any change in sound when driving a various speeds?
My guess is if you hear it whenever the ignition is on whether the engine running or not, it may be the inverter or maybe a speaker??
If you only hear it when driving, I'd look somewhere underneath.

Ah! Good point. It is defintely an electrical sound, and not driveline. Nor is it related to engine RPM or anything. It shuts off a few seconds after you turn the car off, like maybe when the other electronics all shut down. I haven’t checked to see if it is on when the car is on in tue accessory position yet. But I’m guessing it will be.

Short video of the tone. It definitely only happens when the truck is on. If just the accessory electronics is on, nothing. I thought it might be the outlet so I pulled the fuse & it did not change anything. Likewise with making sure the rear AC controls were off. Not sure where to go from here, but I’m guessing I have to pull the cover off & go fishing now.

Whelp, today is apparently my day to find & fox all sorts of stupid issues. I finally found a combination of words on google that took me to a lexus forum with what sounded like the same issue.

Turns out the passenger side 3rd row seat switch had been bumped & the seat wasn’t fully stowed. Pushed it briefly, fully closed & fixed the sound!

Gotta love an easy fix!
