Ok i was hoping that this years Trail lead would start this but i am going to help him out .

Wagon Run Wed June 25th Loon Lake . you will make your way to Buck island on Wednesday and camp there for the night . On Thursday you will make your way from Buck Island down to Rubicon Springs . .

This year your Trail Lead will be Ray Hancock . The Wagon Run is sold out .

Things i would suggest between now and the start of your run . First make sure your rig is in good running order check your fluids and crawl around and check all the nut and bolts . Exercise your winch . Make sure its working Make sure you have spare batteries for your winch remote . Go through your recovery gear . You know that first aid kit you bought ? Open it up and look at it get familiar with were things are or better yet what you actually have in it . I have sent out a email to all of the Wagon run participants Talk amongst yourselves and get to know your new Family . Share with each other what sort of spare parts you may be bringing . Do not be the last guy to show up 2 min before your run leaves I suggest coming in the evening before and camping at Loon .

Remember they are doing road work on Ice house road so plan for delays . The forestry has asked if at all possible to come in from Georgetown .

GMRS radios are fine for the runs The trail leads with have ham radio capability .

Most importantly Relax this is fun Pay attention to your spotters They can see what you can not you are going to have to trust them . I look forward to meeting all of you this year . Hopefully Ray will chime in . paging Rayjon

Yes, @woytovich will be dragging me across the country. I plan to hook up to his trailer and let his Yukon with the 8.1 do all the work. Might need to kick in that ".1" up the hills.
1997 LX450 fully armored, pulling my M416/w 36" Swampers on beadlocks, locked, bla, bla, bla.
I'll make sure she's clay bar'd, waxed, and shiny so I don't embarrass myself out west.

And Mark is used to waiting for me. As Hannibal Lecter would say, "She's a big girl. Roomy through the hips."

Pulling a trailer . There are sections that will be extremely difficult pulling a trailer with a 80 . I strongly suggest if you must have a trailer to come in from Tahoma before your run and drop the trailer at Rubicon Springs .

We will be leaving our trailers at the exit staging area and driving around to loon for the start.

Woy, that is a good plan, I have done that alot and the drive around thru South Lake is great, try to hit Tahoma staging to drop trailer around 1 thats about as late as you can get and still get to Loon in time to swim before dark. The night before the trail when you have the trailer dropped, camp set and you are just chillin at Loon is a good night, often sleep under the stars, there is a paved camp ground very close to the trail head with bathrooms and it is right on the lake.
I prefer to stay up at loon vs. down at Ice House resort, the stars that are visible from Loon are unreal.

That's the plan: a very early arrival at Tahoma staging (probably crashing in Truckee the night before) in order to get unloaded etc and on the road from Tahoma, grab lunch in SLT and get to Loon early-ish.

Speaking of Truckee.... any hotel/motel recommendations, or keep-away-froms, in the Truckee area?

You will come off 80 at 89 to Tahoe City and see very little of actual truckee, there is gas, shopping, McDonalds right when you come off freeway, its a 2 lane circle at the exit to get you from 80 onto 89 just a heads up as it can be crazy traffic at times. That gas is good for trailers, another chance for gas in Tahoe City, again the route to 89 cuts off just before town so you dont see Tahoe City unless you continue past cut off into town there is grocery right at intersection where you get back onto 89 to Tahoma. Beautiful drive down 89, watch closely as the sign for McKinney Rubicon trail comes up quick, weave your way back thru neighborhood ( little signs that are easy to miss guide you thru to trail ent ) , narrow blacktop path back to staging area. After you get back thru SLT and down 50 about 1 mile before the Ice House turn up to Loon there is a gas station right on 50, thats lkast gas unless you stop at ice house, I recommend the station. Looking forward to meeting you guys, where's Woy ? Look to Tahoe City for lodging, there are some places right on 89 very close to Tahoma where you could get a room for the night, bougi little touristy chalet type stuff.

LOL. The trailer is for the Swampers and assorted parts and goodies. The 416 will not be on the trail with me. We're gonna leave all our crap at the Tahoma side, swap tires, and drive back around to Loon. We'll camp at Loon for the night and be ready to roll in the morning...after coffee.

Getting there.... shakedown run this weekend... I've never wheeled & camped out of the 40. I usually have a basecamp with all the "stuff" and sleep in the tow rig.

Caught up on some PM over the last 2 weeks.
Replaced rear inner axle shafts, repacked wheel bearings on all 4 corners, swapped on powder coated and fully rebuilt calipers, adjusted hand brake, full tune up, new belts, new hoses, new thermostat, cleaned up and remounted the York, added R135A to the AC, installed ceramic coated burrito box.
Will do oil/filter/lube a few days prior to hitting the road.
