Was reading through this and wanted to add this tip if you don't have a windows XP laptop: I was able to create a TIS account on the website, pay for a 2-day license ($50 iirc), download the latest TIS software, install it on windows 7, use it with a cable purchased on ebay, and it worked to modify all my settings for my '16 LC.
I had lots of trouble getting it to work on earlier versions and I also wanted to make sure I had a version that would work for all the features on a 2016 model. Paying for basically a one-time use on the latest version just gave me peace of mind that I got everything I could configure done.
I had a misconception that this was a hacked version of private Toyota software because in my past I've done this process with BMW and their software is not available to the public. It was neat to find out that the general public can go on their site, pay a fee, and download/use the software.
