Hi everyone. Just got my 80 and lovin it. Aside from detailing it and tuned it up, the only upgrade I've done was to install a K&N airfilter and driving lights. Its gonna need
tires soon. I was thinking of 285 75 16 tires. What are the disadvantages of upsizing tires. Or shall i just stick to 275 70 16? It probably won't see much offroads. But I kinda like the look of bigger tires.
Thanks

K&N is crap, for wheeling. Least it was for me. I took out the K&N and put back the paper filter after I got stuck in a mud bog and the K&N didn't filter crap =[

You can fit up to 33'' tires on your rig. I'm gonna be running 33x12.50 pro comp muds soon. 285 is just a tad bit smaller than 305 (33'') I'd run the 285's bigger tires look sweet on the lc.

Oh and welcome to the site...

You can run a 285/75R16 with no problems on a stock setup - no rubbing even fully stuffed. A 305/70R16 is the same dia. (~33") but a little wider - some claim no problems, others argue. If you're planning a lift later you can also get by with a 295/75R16 - which would be fine for every day use but you'd need a lift for wheeling them.

All that said, I run 285/75R16 MTR's on mine and love them - speedo is off about 1MPH at highway speed....

Good Luck!

welcome!

Just goin thru some old threads. Does anyone experienced a differnce in shift point and overdrive shifting out when using 285 tires?

I don't notice a difference, but you can get the correct speedo gear which should return it pretty much back to stock.
