I'm trying to decide on a new set of tires, wheels, and type of lift to put on my 80. I'm thinking some Safari DTR HVT's, BFG-rich mud-terrain, or BFG-rich Krawlers with a 3''- 5'' suspension lift............any personal experiences with any of these or recommendations? Don't want to break my wallet either:frown:

:flipoff2: would really appreciate your opinions

What will you use the vehicle for?
You can find a great deal of info in the 80's FAQ, probably much more than you need to make your decision.

I am currently running Slee's 4" kit w/ 35 Nitto Terra Graplers & am quite happy w/ it. If you are trying to protect the wallet, I would look at Downey's site. I previously had thier 3" lift w/ 35's, & was perfectly happy w/ it.

hey man, welcome! I myself have the OME Stock height lift (only do expedition, beach wheeling over here) and rear 30MM spacers from Man-a-fre. I am running 35" BFG Muds and i ABSOLUTELY love them! The lift depends on what kinda wheeling your going to do, i am not going to rock crawl, just beach excursions so i opt'd for the low hieght lift (Keeping Center of Gravity near stock form) and Big ass tires so that when i wheel in the soft sand that we have here i can put the air down to 15psi and have a wide foot print for traction.

If your going to wheel hard with the truck on rocky terrain or do some hard core trailing then i would go with the 3" OME lift or the Man-A-Fre 4" lift kit (Good deal and easy to do the CC with the included brackets) and a set of 35's and then you may have to re-gear which i never needed to do because of sea level elevations where i live and drive. You on the other hand may need to re-gear if you want 35's, but with 33's you will most likely not have to re-gear.

My 2-Cents!

There is an FAQ item on selecting tires

I am running the Toyo Open Country MT 315's with an OME J Lift and L shocks. But I have a lot of weight with Bumpers, Dual Batts, Super charger, sliders, drawers, etc.

There is also an FAQ item on OME lifts in the modifications section of the FAQ (Stickey thread at the top titles FAQ for 80/LX450 . . . )

I use the 80 for mudding and pretty soon for some moderate trails....no rock crawling, etc... Not any beaches/sand to get into around here. I appreciate the insight. I had been leaning toward the OME 3'' lift with 33's - figured that would be substantial. Definitely don't want to deal with re-gearing. Thanks
