Man, I got the whole truck done and now I can't afford tires

I have Cooper ST Maxx's on the 100 and I like them. They're quiet and grab pretty well OffRoad. I'm missing some chunks out of them, though, and I don't think they've been wheeled too hard... I normally take the easy lines.

I've run BFG KO's for years on my 80. They're nearing the end of their life, but I freaking love them! They're great AT's and they work well OffRoad.

I had 35" Toyo Open Country's on my F350. Nice tires, but God they were heavy!

John, I suggest looking at the Nitto line-up for price and longevity. I ran Terra Grapplers on my 4 runner and the Troopy. I believe Darin still has the set off the troops on one of his 80s. The 4 runner set lasted well over 40K Miles running up and down I77 and out 40 on various adventures. They never let me down in snow, light mud, ice, and wet paved roads/forest service unmaintained roads. After a fresh dump of 12" of snow they plowed through it easily on forest service road to get me to the trail head to go explore the winter wonderland. I just purchased in March a set of the Terra Grappler G2s. They did well in the spring snow (several days of 4-6" plus of WET snow) and spring torrential downpours on paved roads. I have not had a chance to use them off road, but the tires look identical to my old set so I expect the same performance.

John
Quick info while is fresh in my mind. Just drove through some massive thunder rain storms, the Hercules tires faction was fantastic all the way, I was impressed.

John, did you get tires? My hankooks are fading fast. The right rear tire is losing tread quicker than the rest and has some odd wear on the outside lugs. I am leaning to more mud tires for the confidence off-road but we do a lot of street driving.

I still have a little life in my Hankooks (same model and size as you). But yeah, they're going fast. I'll probably start pricing options out in August or September and will keep an eye on the used market, too.

I cannot begin to say how pleased I have been with my Mickey Thompson MTZ's. really solid road manners for a MT tire.

How are they in slushy winter weather? We never had any of that while I had them on the 40.

I'm leaning toward BFG KO2's for AT. Mickey Thompson MTZ for MT. Mickey T has one called the Extreme Country that looks promising but I can't buy anything that has any permutation of the word 'extreme' in it. Same for anything labeled 'tactical' - no matter how cool that 'tactical kilt' might appear.

Just buy some tires already. :flipoff2:
Whoa there, Nelly! Just remember that there are 2 of us John/Jons with current tire threads that are getting in the way of the more interesting things to read here :). I'll get to it in due time. Kinda hard when my lazy/ADD brain only gives it a few minutes thought every few days. I WISH I was able to just get sh!t done in a timely fashion :flipoff2:. Those days are long gone for me. It's gonna suck getting even older!

^^ Tire threads are the sheet. I'm going to start a "which oil to use" thread next! :)

At the risk of appearing thin skinned, I did say this...
I'm going to need tires on the 80 in the next couple months. I want to post here for opinions of people local who ride the same places as I do.
:moon:

That said, I used the jibes as motivation to get some quotes this afternoon. I'll start a new thread to ask opinions on prices! And another one for thoughts on washer fluid. And another one for thoughts on wiper blades. And another one for getting in touch with Shane at Metric TLC. And another one for 'who is Beno?'. Oh, and another for should I put the white letters in or out? :rimshot:

Don't forget the "What is my ___________ worth?" thread.

All in good fun John.

As far as opinions go, On an 80 series I prefer the BFG in either AT or MT depending on your needs. No bigger than 315. If BFG still offered a tall/skinny for my 40 I would have bought those and never shopped around.

Oh and black wall out!
