I have to find a better latch than I have now. Please send me to the suppliers who handle these type s of parts

i got a locking latch from mcmaster carr. has the normal pull handle, but also has a piece that keeps the pull handle locked in place until you want it to release. also have pop pins to hold it in place.

mcmaster carr is an incredibly huge site. any specifics on the latch name or part number to search for?

Yup. That's the type I have, but mine is a Destaco. That secondary latch that holds it in a latched position is very secure.

Igy, your sig says only 4 Cruisers left. Are you thinning down to one or two? Or are you gearing up to buy more? :D

think mine is also destaco, just bought through mcmaster carr. nope on building up...thinning. can't handle having soo many projects...nothing gets done. even have someone interested in the blue/white pig. only other thing i'll buy is another 80 to replace the white one, which is well beyond beat and will become a parts rig.

Excluding the off shore mfg's there are really only two mfg's of that type of latch; De-Sta-Co (red handles) and Carr-Lane (green handles).
Reid Tool and Austin Hardware are other good sources for this general type of stuff.

1.75 degrees of separation: I know the guy jonesin for the 55. :)

you a triumph guy or something? john's a nice guy...i think it would really fit his personality.

No, no Triumphs. Worked on too many English Sports & Sports-Racing cars to have any interest. Only thing good that came out of those machines is Hylomar.
John & I go way back to our days in SOB's (Some Other Brand). First time that I met him in person was on the Oregon beach in 1997 or '98. I agree and I know that he's looking forward to making the deal happen.

what about making a beefy homeade one?

For starters you could clone the unit that Proto-Fab makes, but does not sell except on complete bumpers. (Last that I looked only Heep and Early Bronco applications.) It is substantially stouter than the biggest of the De-Sta-Co/Carr-Lane type latches.

Can never count your time when you're working for yourself. Can only ask if buying something & moving to the next project is worth more to you than making it.

I don't know how you would make one better for less $$ than what is commercially available.
you got a point there, but if you can't find a descent latch at a descent price you could let your ideas flow:)
