What is the difference between 285/70/16 and 285/75/16? I got a quote today for BF Goodrich KO/AT, size 285/70/16, five of them for $650 no mounting and balance. I have a '93 FZJ80, 2.5 OME lift. Right now I have 265/75/26 on it. Should I get them?

I am 99.9% sure about this. Your either heard him wrong or he just said the wrong thing. There is not such thing as 285/70/r16 they or 75 and this is the side hight of the tire from rim to top of tire. A 285 is a 33"x11.25 A 305/70/r16 is a 33"x12.5" tire

285/XX/r16, the XX refers to the ratio of tire width to sidewall height. If XX=75, that means the sidewall is 75% of the tire width. ie. for same width tire, 75 will have a taller sidewall than a 70. That being said, I'm with NorcalSam, I don't think there is any mainstream tire in 285/70/16. I would definitely get a 285/75/16 or bigger with your setup. Also the price quoted is very low for 5 285 sized tires, I am guessing it is a communication error and the tire size is different.

Thats an understatement. New, the 5 tires should be closer to $900 installed or $850 out the door.

If you can get 5 new BFG AT/KO 285/75/16's for that, snap them up. You won't find a better deal.

BTW, I agree with everyone else, the size you quoted seems odd, I wonder if he could be quoting you for some "take-off's" OR he gave you the price for 4 285/75/16's and not 5.

Dude - you got some funky sizes there. Clarify. 285 75 16's are what you are probably looking for....

:) I just talked to the guy who is selling the tires. The size IS 285/75/16 BF Goodrich Ko A/T. The price is correct, $650 for 5 tires.
