I have a 1964 FJ45SWB. I am almost done with a frame off restore.
I need to know if my year had bumberetts and where does the spare tire go? I see 63's and 65's with the tire carrier on the pass side bed?? I haven't seen a 64 with this set up. Any help would be much help.
Thanks, joe

Joey, it should have bumberetts, and yours being a 64 should have the tire carrier under the bed, like the lwb 45's.Only early build 63 fixed tops got the spare swing out.You should also have tail lights in your bed as appossed to the frame mounted lights on 63's Hth

My bed didn't have any holes for tail lights. (I talked to someone at SOR. They assured me the lights went down on the rear frame.) I brought it down to the steel. it was solid??
Thanks for the input.
Joe

what is your vin # if your taillights are on the frame then the bed should have holes for the hinged tire carrier on the right and a licence plate holder on the left side.

So that would make it a '63 titled as a '64. Any pics of the rear of your bed?

Here is a pic. There are no holes or supports for a tire carrier on the bed?? It did come with a tire carrier. It was not mounted and as I said nothing leading me to believe it was ever on the truck.
I really want to put it back the way it was new??

Neither are mine, but these show what yours should look like...note that neither of these '63 45s have the correct tail lights...yours seem correct.

If you are a purist, and want to do a true restoration to "to put it back the way it was new", then it looks like the tail gate currently on your rig will need to be changed.

Hope this helps

Edit: That should have read neither of the following trucks in the attached pictures are mine...

he definitely has the fixed cab/split window design which I thought ended in '63?

another late registration:meh:

UH fixed cab split didn't end in 63. Mine has lights in back of bed and spare underneath with cool handles to use to ski behind the truck.

early 63 (your truck) goes on the right rear corner of the bed,you can use an fj40 mount, its pretty much the same.Yes I am positve! And 63 to middle of 64 there were fixed cabs, and then came the removable top short and long wheelbase trucks! But many early trucks got titled 1 0r 2 years after the build date, very common.

I also just noticed your windshield is fixed with no hinges! Very rare and another clue to how early your vin is!!

whitey, on the fixed windshields, did they still have that seam across the bottom of the windshield? it does look different with those protrusions on either side of the vent?

So how do I know if my spare tire goes under the bed or on it???

look on your rear crossmember and the crossmember that supports your rear shocks, if you had a below spare tire system, it should be will be evident via these pictures.....the rear mount/bracket is only partial:meh:...............................

Hmmm...I've seen pics of plates/brackets instead of hinges, but never something like this. I am really not sure, but if the rear tailgate is any indication, my guess would be a lot of custom work to get that windshield frame mated to the cowl like that.

Does anyone have a picture of an older '63 to compare with?
Does your vin number have a 3 or 2 before the FJ in the vin number?

Hard to tell in this "picture" what the inside looks like, but it does not appear to have any hinges on the outside...
