Time for a new alternator

I’ve had both the stock alternator and the sequoia/tundra upgrade. When my upgraded alternator went out I had a spare stock one so I switched back. To be honest I didn’t notice a difference. I have dual batteries, winch and lights but no fridge or anything like that. My vote is rebuild the stock one YMMV.
 
IF you don't now (or plan in the future) to add a bunch of items requiring more output (High output amplifier, Winch, etc) then I'd rebuild the stock unit. It isn't too difficult to do and it's a very robust unit. IF you have need for more output....then obviously this would be a good time to upgrade.

If you choose to rebuild....then do just that (go completely through it). Tear it down, inspect it, clean it, new bearings, new brushes, test your regulator.
 
I've had the Photoman kit/ Sequoia setup on my last 3 80's ( probably 100k miles with no incidents or failures) and it's well worth the expense IF you're going to do dual batts and have lots of accessories that draw amps, or want to overland..... if not a rebuild or Denso makes more sense.
 
I probably shoud add, I do have a winch and fogs. I would like to add a frig in the furture and dual batteries.

Does anyone know the part number to rebuild the alternator? At the very least, I would like to rebuild it and have it as a back up.

How long does it take to swap an alternator out?
 
any denso hairpin large case would be a phenomenal upgrade...google it you'll see
Not a logical choice for an off road vehicle IMO.
No drop in replacement, totally custom build, reliability issues, etc.

Let's also remember that there are also many many trucks running in the most remote areas of the planet with 60-80 amp alternators, with dual batteries, winches, aux lighting, refrigerators, etc. and somehow they all run just fine.
