I truly don't get it either. Someone was asking 27k on here for a woodland green 01 or 02 they were claiming was there parents and i got flamed for stating it was an insane price. I believe the mileage was in the 50's.


Seems like someone would pay good money for this but more along the lines of 18-22. Tranny could blow up in 50k lol!
 
I think the theory is, with low miles it commands a premium (like they say, there's no used car factory). I've seen a lot of arguments for just buying a 200 at this price point and unless you want one with a questionable past or very high miles for it's age (LC or LX) you're paying $35K+ even for an early production year 08/09. Plus for the early model years that wasn't exactly the time to go out and buy a new $75K+ V8 truck so the numbers are low.

As someone who recently stole bought an 06 LX for an amazing price my constant prowling for a clean 100 lead me to find quite a few with 150K-175K miles that people want anywhere from mid teens to mid twenty's depending on the condition and year. There's this weird gap in the $20K-$30K range where there's not a lot of inventory and it's hit or miss on 100 vs. 200.

Yeah, almost $30K is a pretty tall price for one from 2000 but I fully believe there are people out there looking for clean low mile example that get fed up on the search and eventually pay up. I'd expect this to go at somewhere in the $22K-$25k range with the argument "go find another one just like it".

I agree. I looked for a long time and could not find an 80 I liked. I switched to 100's and also found a shortage of them. I finally found a very nice 63k mile 02 with a little crust that had to be mitigated and just love it. I am restoring an 80 right now but that 100 is a wonderful rig. The 08+ models are rare as the tidal wave of 2010 stopped 11 production. Hard to find an early 200 in the states so the late low mile 100's will be high.
 
As the 100 gets closer to getting respect and collectibility status as a owner I hope they get it .If I was hunting for one to buy of course I would want to buy it at 50 cents on the dollar for 10 or $ 15k . In front of a national audience like Bring A Trailer it may bring the full asking price. cannot drive it in reverse like Ferris Bueller to lower the mileage. I love the 100 and am rooting for it. This one has a nice pedigree and look at the nice storage facility. It's a Keepah
 
Here's my take:

It's a Lexus. And that makes it virtually uncollectible. So you'd be buying it simply for the low Odo. Which seems pretty pointless.

If this was Land Cruiser, and the apparent condition checks out, then I think this truck is worth something close to the Ask, assuming you just want a pristine example for a collection or Sunday drives, etc.

@ace10 I'd agree and disagree with your theory on Lexus. Yes, certainly not all of the models in their lineup and even specific generations will have a desirability as time goes on. Looking broadly at just Lexus as a brand their late model flagship vehicles (LS and LX) I think have shown there will likely be a collectible aspect to them. The LS since it's inception to 2006 has a huge following and the same goes for the LX. Toyota/Lexus was really at its peak in the late 90's early 00's and these models to me represent the final "analog" luxury vehicles. Yes the versions that come after are nice and reliable but there is far more tech inside of them that could add complexity in their reliability and certainly styling has become a heavily debated item.

The LX still maintains that classic SUV boxy styling with the off road capabilities and like I said, there are less complex technologies involved in running that truck vs its 570 big brother. It doesn't have the name recognition as an LC but I think the individuals who are looking to own (collect) late model versions of these will understand that other than some exterior bits and maybe a few other items, it's the same truck with the same part numbers. I've seen a few LX's on BaT and the comments pretty much acknowledge the 100 series collectively with little focus on the brand badge.
 
The LS, although basically an improved copy of the Germans, was a groundbreaking model for Toyota and the rest of the Japanese car makers.

It was a tremendous car. Nice examples still fetch good money as drivers. And the pristine ones are pulling collector-type money.

But I can see zero parallels between the LS and the LX.
When I spoke of the LX being a "Lexus," really what I meant was that it's not a "Land Cruiser."

As we know, the LX is simply a tarted-up Land Cruiser. It wasn't groundbreaking. It wasn't the first Lexus SUV. It isn't the last Lexus SUV. Subjectively, I don't think it looks better than the UZJ100 nor does it have any real performance advantages.

That doesn't make it a bad vehicle. Heck, I bought one new in late 2001. But that was just because the buying experience at a Toyota store was beyond bad. Lexus did the whole sales and service thing right back then.

But the bottom line for me is that there is no offroading "heritage" for Lexus. And the LX450 currently suffers mightily in market value when compared to the FZJ80. That tells me that the LX470 isn't going to be a sought-after collectible down the road.
