Not mine, no affiliation. I thought about bidding on it, but I’m happy with my HDJ80.

This is going up for auction September 16th at the Ritchie Brothers yard in the Netherlands (if no one has made arrangements to buy it outright before then). Ritchie Brothers are a big equipment surplus auction place. They’re based in Canada I think, but they have branches all around the world. Mostly heavy equipment for construction and agriculture, but they do a lot of vehicles, too. They can ship worldwide.

Anyway, this one is quite obviously a former United Nations vehicle. It's a 1999 HZJ 105, so has the chassis of an 80-series (solid front axle) and the body of a 100 series (more room) PLUS, it’s left hand drive, like normal here in the USA. Comes with a naturally aspirated 1HZ diesel motor, R151F 5-speed transmission, and 4.30 gears in open differentials F + R. It does have a center diff lock. Vinyl interior with manual roll-up windows, split bench seat up front, rear jump seats, and swing out rear doors (barn doors) in the back. It looks like it has a/c, which is nice. Shows about 372,000km or about 231,000 miles. Has a few rough spots, but it might go cheap. Over 25 years old, so old enough to import legally into the US. Looks to be completely unmodified from original. Still has remnants of the UN stickers on it.

A few things are evident from the Ritchie Brothers site:

Comes with a Bill of Sale, but has no Title/Registration paperwork. I’d suggest getting the advice of an experienced Customs Broker to see what, if any, problems that might entail when importing. Once it’s in the US, most states will let you Title a car with a bond if you don’t have the paperwork.

If you watch the video of it running, you’ll see that it’s smoking a fair amount. Looks like white smoke to me, which is usually unburnt diesel. Could be as simple as bad glowplugs, injectors that are overdue for service, or air in the fuel lines, or as serious as very low compression in one or more of the cylinders or a cracked head or something. I’d suspect the former, but bid like it’s the latter. A 1HZ is the easiest thing in the world to fix, regardless of what’s wrong with it, and all the parts are readily available. I've had a couple of neglected 1HZ's that cleaned up nicely with a little bit of maintenance love.

Has cloth seat covers, which could be protecting the original vinyl seats, or covering up their condition.

Chassis is pretty crusty. Looks to me like it’s sat out near the salt air for quite a while, but who knows. Nothing there that complete disassembly, media blasting, repainting, and reassembly with new parts and fasteners won’t fix.

Has what I’d assume to be a small power steering fluid leak, which has acted as a preservative on one tiny area of the chassis.

I don’t see anything of any significance that isn’t exactly as Toyota made it in 1999, just 25 years old and well used. This is a complete, all original blank slate for your restoration or custom build, and, given it's condition, it might be relatively cheap (hard to know with such things).

Go to the link to learn the details of how Ritchie Bros. auctions work. In short, if you win the bid, it's yours. No "if"s, "and"s, "but"s, or "maybe"s. If you win you also pay their fees, so read up to be sure you understand what you're getting into. I've never shipped with them, so I have no idea how their rates compare to anyone else, but I can provide the name of another shipper who can give you something to compare if their rate seems too high. I can also provide contact information for a guy in Belgium who can drive over to the Netherlands and check it out for you in person, if you like. PM me if interested.
