My '85 has a squeek in the clutch linkage and I suspect it might be the throw out bearing. I thought I read something about greasing the bearing (carefully of course) to lessen the squeek. Does this work or is the only solution to replace the bearing?

When does it squeak? When pushing in the clutch? At idle, in neutral w clutch out? While revving faster?

The T.O. bearing is sealed. Can't be lubricated.

Any chance it's the return spring under the dash.

It squeaks when I depress the clutch pedal and is audible both inside and outside the vehicle. Doesn't make any noise when idling or driving. I'll check the return spring.

I had the same question.. I have a squeal when there is no pressure on the clutch pedal. If I put my foot on the pedal with just a little pressure the squeal goes away.

Is it a big deal to replace the bearing? Or can I just put up with the squeal?

If you've got an '85 or later 60, maybe replace the slave cylinder with a Toyota slave. Not aftermarket.
These models of cruisers' slaves apply constant pressure to the throw out bearing with an internal spring. If the spring is weak, the bearing friction surface can slip on the clutch spring tangs instead of grab it to spin the bearing. ... making a squeaking noise.

I had an aftermarket slave that did this. When I replaced it with a Toyota slave, the squeaker went away. Squeaking was worse in the morning until the bearing warmed up and could spin more freely.

Replacing the T.O. bearing is a big job. Tranny has to be dropped.

That's for the info.. I just replaced the slave cylinder this weekend with an aftermarket one still has the same squeal. Might do a clutch job down the road at some point. Get it all knocked out.

I'm not so clear on your issue.... does it squeak when you hold the pedal down, when the pedal is in motion (up or down), or when you are not touching the pedal?
Is it a repeating squeak-squeak-squeak..., a one-time squeak or a constant squeal?

Mine squeaked pretty bad. FWIW... After I replaced the master and slave with OEM parts, it went away.

Squeaks when I depress and release the pedal -- when the pedal itself is in motion -- only. One squeak when I depress the clutch and one squeak when I release the clutch. No squeak when at rest or when completely depressed, only when the pedal is traveling.

Ditto on the pedal return spring its probably wearing a groove at its anchor point as well as wearing on the spring end.
Been there done that......squeak in squeak out I had the spring break on the end and it started wearing a groove on the anchor point.
