I purchased this 2f used, out of a '79 FJ40, never got to hear it run.

I have the head pulled, since 2 cylinders were low on compression, leak down test showed its probably valves.

What do you all think about the wear on these cylinder walls though? Motor has been rebuilt, pistons are stamped 0.75. Should I pull pistons and dingle ball the cylinders, just send it, or just get a rebuilt engine? I'd like to not have to pull the engine again.

These were compression #s on cold engine, re torqued head, adjusted valves, and some oil added to the cylinders (engine has been sitting a few years, so thought that would be a good idea)

The cylinders in the 120's were the ones that are leaking out of the valves.

Thanks for the input, everyone!! I showed the pics to a friend of mine that builds quite a few engines, and he also said to run it!

A valve job will help. Looks to me wear on wall at perhaps wrist pin. Maybe it got hot at one time. Cross hatching looks good so likely not a high time on rebuild. What is your idle oil pressure read on a manual direct read gauge.

I have not ran the engine yet. However, I had a oil pressure guage on it while I turned the engine over for the compression test, and I was getting 55psi, cold engine/oil obviously.

Send it!
