Friend of mines sister was driving home the other night and wrecked her FZJ80. She says she wasn't going that fast. She survived but did loose her leg in the wreck. I will let the pic speak for itself. Yes it is small and the only one I have.
No cliff or embankment just road to not on the road.

Frame rail was about 1inch from the ground. Everyone here was amazed she lived after seeing it first hand.

I am sorry to hear about her
But from the look of the picture she was going alot faster than she said she was
That picture looks like the picture of my audi when I wrecked it going about 50+mph
She was definitly moving pretty good for that type of damage
You will also get much more damage from a side collision like that
I speak from experience
Again sorry to here about this accident these things are never good

WOW! Glad she survived, despite loosing her leg. That amount of damage and not having speed involved, something else must have been at play? Ice? Something?

WOW!!! Looking at that damage, she is lucky to be alive, FZJ80 or not.

I would say from the damage the 80 did a pretty good job at saving her life

They are tough, I literally walked away with no serious injury after rolling my 93 going 70 mph....

X2 on that. Wishing her well and just glad she survived.

Glad to hear she lived. I make a living out of cutting people from mess like that and she was definately lucky to be in a well built heavy vehicle. Any other and the out come could have been drastically different. Wish her well on her recovery.

Having been in an accident involving a tree myself, the tree will always win. Best wishes to your sister on her recovery.

I figure had she been in any other vehicle she would not have survived.

Unless it was a 2005 or newer. There is simply no substitute for the new boron supersteels they are using now. With all of the engineering advances into crash safety your chances of walking away from wrecks like these is greatly magnified. Had she been driving newer vehicle she probably would have crawled out of the passenger side and walked away.

Wow. Best of luck to the survivor. At least she is a survivor.

Looking at the damage, it looks as if the truck was almost in the beginnings of a rollover with the truck up on it's driver side wheels, but traveling perpendicular to the direction of the body, and the tree caught it across the top of the dash - with LOTS of momentum, crushing the windshield/A-pillar and driver door area.

Good to hear she lived through that - 55+ mph- no doubt ...These trucks are not as invinceible as you think they are- thinnest gauge metal of all the cruiser series i've owned- and than means all of them- ...
however i could use that right tailight if its still good.....

For sure she's lucky to be alive, if she had hit the tree just a foot further back it could have crushed her skull. Looks like the tree was almost uprooted by the impact.

Yeah the new HSS and UHSS are INCREDIBLE. I took a few classes in those this year and the tech is really awesome to see. It is a pain on my side of things with work as there is not much that can be "sectioned" in anymore but the durability to weight is astonishing.

After reading through the posts I went back and looked at the pic again and a question popped into my head. I wonder if the rig would have had a good set of sliders installed, would that have helped much - especially in occupant protection in a crash like this? Food for thought :hhmm:.
