Gentlemen: I've been in search of my first 40 for a good while now, but this one seems to keep catching my eye on ebay. I first saw it listed out of the Rockies (CO), then in a few months it popped up out of NE Arkansas, and now it's in the Tulsa area and has ran the course of several, reserve not met, auction listings. In the most recent, I believe it was bid in excess of 20 grand:hhmm:
Looked like a damn stout bid to me, but anyway I really like the look of it, and would like to take a swing at buying it, but I always find it beneficial to seek input from experts in the field which I know several of you are.
Is anyone familiar with this truck, and it's ebay merry-go-round? What are your thoughts on the rhino liner stuff? Isn't it a huge drawback from a collector/purist standpoint? What's the real market on such a rig? I don't want to buy something that'll be a tough sale if and when a guy decides to do so. Thanks in advance for your thoughts:cheers:

If he had a bid in excess of 20 grand he should have taken it.

It is not something I would be interested in at all, the Rhino lining is going to be a nightmare for some one down the road. I would not pay over 9K for that truck (if I was forced into buying it, and assuming it is not a scam):meh:

If you're really interested, get pics from seller before the shiny paint and whatever else that is were applied, just to make sure nothing else is hidden. Good luck!

I think it looks like a quick repaint, flip job to me. There appears to be a TON of overspray on the frame. Supposedly they did a "Very Expensive Restoration", yet they didn't bother to paint the engine compartment to match the rest of the truck. The supposedly did a "Complete Engine Overhall From Carb to Pan" yet they skipped even repainting the valve cover or cleaning the corrosion and dirt off most everything under the hood. Also, I don't understand why they would rebuild the front and rear axles but leave the front drums and not upgrade to discs. It's not a stock restore, so there's no financial incentive to that. The front turn signals are completely missing, the ones in the bib are just parking lights.

And I would hate the Rhino coating on the body.

Also, if you look at the photos that show the underside of the rear of the tub, you still see the stock ribs. If you look at the photos of the rear area through the rear doors, the floor is smooth. That is supposed to be the opposite side of the the same piece of metal. Lots of questions to be answered.

pass ...

there is a nice 63 FJ40 up here that you can get for $10K covered with a purdy coating of hippo liner ...
still better looking than that one.

Now its up to $21,600:censor: No way, I think someone is hiding their own Easter eggs:D
