My 87 FJ60 had a 38mm weber on it when I purchased it. It's just a gas hog. I think I've been getting around 13 mpg with it, so I imagine the 32/36 will do a little better. I already have all the accelerator cable, pedal, etc for a weber. I figure it will just be easier having a new Weber 32/36 thown on than having to mess with reconfiguring to a stock carb, with linkage, pedal, etc. The kit for the weber 32/36 is like $500. Anyone think this will be worth swapping. I can always sell my 38 mm to get some of the money back. Anyone have a 32/36 and can speak on behalf of it? power, economy, etc. Thanks

Fuggedaboutit.

A smaller carb doesn't mean it will get better fuel mileage.

Get one of those little magnets that goes aroung the fuel line. I heard they work like magic. :flipoff2:

2X wirh Pinhead but smaller jets in the 38 might help!!!

I have a 38 dgas on my 84. I put in a heated oxy sensor and got it tuned pretty well. I get about 17 on the interstate and 10 to 13 in town. I takes some time but you can tune it to run really well. What air filter do you have on it?

I think having the progressive carb would help keep the fuel from being sucked at a high rate all the time, or am I wrong?

What size jets would you reccommend? I'm pretty sure I changed them once already. I can't remember what size I changed them to.

That's awesome gas mileage! I may actually get better on the highway, possibly the same as you in town. I'll have to recalculate it.

how about getting an aisin rebuilt and just dump the weber altogther?
that's my plan.

I don't have the time to have a aisin rebuilt, then messing with linkage, etc. If I had the parts I'd do it I might. I however only have the aisin carb, air cleaner, and that is all. What else would I need? I think I have a heat shield too.

No person experience with the 32 but everthing i read said stay away from the 32 with the 2f. I have the 38 and can get 16 or so on the highway if I drive 55 to 60.

jets are going to be specific to your truck and your location.

i had my webber tuned well and it was giving me around 16mpg when i drove it easy.

I think maybe I just have a lead foot. Screw it. I'll keep my 38mm and drive her easy to see how it does. With the new 4:88 gearing and 35s should I expect around the same mileage? I heard it might be better?

Somebody mentioned this already, and it's a very valid point. Just what are you running for an air cleaner? That stupid little thing that comes with the Webers is not sufficient for a 2F. On a whim, I took mine off one day just to see what would happen and I couldn't believe how much better it ran. There are adapters out there to fit a universal 10" air cleaner on the Weber and combined with a good filter like a K&N, you would see noticeable performance improvements as well as milage.

I attached a 62 airbox to my weber and then up to a snorkel. Plenty of air now

This is the first time I've ever heard about it. Thanks for informing me. Yes I am using that crappy little square weber filter. Do you have any info. on where I can look to get a 10" filter? Thanks again! I have a stock air cleaner assembly but I'd need to find an adaptor for it, so I may as well just look for the 10" cleaner.

found an adaptor for the 2f engine on JToutfitters.com here's the link http://www.jtoutfitters.com/product_info.php?products_id=4678{1}6&osCsid=6fqosv4taoo1i479naomph8ub7

I'll try this for $40 bones and see if it runs any better. That weber filter is crap! I tried to replace it before but I couldn't ever find another one. Guess I should have pushed the issue more.

There is a local wholesaler here in Salt Lake City, Time Automotive Distributors, that carries Weber stuff. They had this adapter that is basicly a plate thet fits over the top of the Weber and gives you a round base with a center stud just like any domestic carburator would have. At that point, any universal air cleaner will fit. I used a 10" K&N and I could not tell the difference between having it on and running without the filter which is the time honored, redneck air cleaner test. It wasn't cheap, but it was worth it. Any distributor that deals with Webers (and is worth his salt) should be able to get that for you. Although I have never tried a snorkel, I'm doubtful that it is the best way to get maximum air into your carb. Water free air? Certainly, but maximum volume? Seems a bit Rube Goldberg to me.

What part of the snorkel do you not understand. If forces cooler, and cleaner air( if you are on dirty roads) into the carb. The air that is around the engine that would be gather in with the normal unit is hot from the engine compartment and has a lot more dust than one that is gathered from above the roof line. It also uses the motion of the truck to force air into the engine allowing maximum air intake. I use one and after a day of driving dusty dirt roads i have compaired my airfilter with that of others in my group and there is a vast difference in the condition of the air filters.

No. Not worth $500.
The 32/36 is significantly smaller than the 38/38, which is significantly smaller than OEM.
If the reduced fuel & air consumption of the 32/36 is desired, the far cheaper solution is to misadjust the throttle linkage so the 38/38 is only getting 60% throttle.

And yeah, cold ram air to the carb is an improvement, especially on an engine w/ the exhaust manifold cooking the intake.

Thanks for the input. I think 60% throttle is a good idea for me. I just have a heavy foot and I know it. I was actually thinking about a snorkel, but I wasn't sure if I was ever going to actually need on; however, if it helps the engine I think it is worth putting on. Thanks again!

everyone assumes its for water crossings but in reality it help keep clean cool air going to the carb.

the 38 IS a progressive carb.
i get 17 mpg with mine
MAN A FRE set it up for high altitued when i bought it from them.

32/36s' are for 4cyl and VWs
