Well I'm thinking about selling my 99 E300TD Mercedes and getting a BJ60. I've been wanting a diesel cruiser for a long time now. Please talk me into it. Anyone have one with a H55?

Yes - owning a FJXX wagon is cool, you just want to play with the cool crowd. :D:D:D
I would talk to Mark Peters.

The only problem I see is finding a BJ60 that is in great shape, that not a bunch of $$$$. There are plenty of cheap Fj60/62 on the market that are clean, what about buying one of those and dropping in a cummings?

Yea, I want to be in the 40/60/80 owners club.

I thought about a Cummings. When I was going to do one, I planned it out in a spreadsheet. A hell of a lot of work. It would be way more $$$$ and trouble to do. I want to buy a 6x with a 3B already in it. If it came with a 5sp, cool. If not, it would not be that difficult to put one in.

You are welcome to drive mine anytime. I live pretty central in Austin. Mine is a conversion:
FJ62 + BJ60 + Turbo = BJ62T... or something like that.

Anyway, it is an '88 Fj62 that has the tranny and engine out of an 81 Bj60. I've got a small lift on it and run 33's. I get about 25mpg in town and just at 30 on the highway if I treat it right.

Shoot me a PM if you'd like to check one out in person before you buy one.

Best

Just a couple quick points. If it doesn't have the H55f, it won't have power steering either. Those two features are why the prices jump quite a bit between 1982 and 1983. Also, to help your shopping, 1985 is the only year Canadian spec BJ60s got a grey interior in addition to the brown and, rarely, got air conditioning. Hope this helps.

cool! I appreciate the response!

Once you start down the road of many cruisers there is no going back,it is long and expensive with countless hours of grease and late nights. You emerse yourself alone in your garage with relatives and friends thinking you have lost it. Neighbors just want you to move. You have too many old cruisers for them. Then it hits you, you are having a blast. have fun Mike

I love Bj60s, specially with power steering and five speed, I have turned few locals onto them and they just learn to drive in the snail lane and love them.

As of lately I have had prolly something like 14 BJ60s, currently the one I am driving has 350 000KM and drives like new with good oil pressure etc.

My latest BJ60 will prolly become a donour vehicle to a FJ55 that I have dreamed about building for many years, nothing againts the 3B engine, but after ownig and driving a japanese spec units with the 1HZ, this will become a future engine install.

Good luck, you will like it alot.

so true!

I say go for it dude, I own a BJ42 and i drive it more than anything else that i own. When i got it it was only gonna be a here and there type of thing but it is much more a daily driver than anything else. and as long as the heater can keep up some ill put the doors back on and drive it through winter as well.

I daily drove my 60 (tho not a diesel) for nearly 2 years and loved driving it as well. espically with the ice cold a/c it had!
