Ok, I can check those off the list.

Thanks!
Agreed, that seems like something else.

This only started after the alignment?

Whelp….

Stopped and Southtown in Moab and found this.

They sent me to another spot for alignment but this shop is wanting to replace the LCA saying the bushing is shot.. Trying to source OEM now. Not sure how I feel about this development, it’s all coming at me like a fire hose but it’s clearly a issue and I’m sort of stuck at the moment.

Ugh.

You can make it home, it might drive funny or wear tires a little but it’s not going to loose a wheel
I thought about just running it but we still have 10 more days and headed into CO for some more mountain roads and camping. The noise is enough to make my toes curl because it’s just making it worse. My fear is cause further damage to other components.

They can’t get a Toyota LCA or bushings so gotta do a NAPA part. If it will get me on the road and home then I’m ok with replacing it with OEM once I’m home. Having the family in the car has me fine with replacing vs running as is.

Thankfully, I was able to book our room for another night and it’s on points so no issue there.

My biggest concern at this point is me shopping for bulletproof suspension set ups to make this not happen again. Feel free to taunt me into spending more money by sending me to the naughty places of cruiser suspension porn suppliers.

Something happened to cause that premature failure. My bet is not loosening LCAs before lifting and tightening them back down once suspension installed and loaded. They have been “pre-loaded” since lift install causing premature wear.

Thanks! Let me call and see.

Their website says they are in Atlanta… seems like a stretch to get them here in the morning.
Looks like these three dealers are in between Moab and your next destination, maybe call them and order with those part numbers for pickup?

  • No. 1 LCA bushings (2x): 48654-60040
  • No. 2 LCA bushings (2x): 48655-60040

You rock!!

Calling now!

3-5 days out on those bushings. That just won’t fit the timeline I’m currently working with.

My recommendation would be call Western Slope in Grand Junction, or Turner in Montrose, and see how quickly they can get you the entire LCA assembly. You’re likely better off doing a complete RnR than trying to get someone to deal solely with the bushings. Labor will likely be the same regardless.

I recently had cam tabs welded and I believe the scenario you painted happened then. All my issues began right after that and it was a few thousand miles ago.

Cruiser Outfitters doesn’t even appear to sell the whole assembly. Do you have part numbers?

UPDATE:

Ih8mud coming in clutch!

Western Slope did not have anything in stock but did show one complete LCA available in Draper. I called Draper and hey have both! and also had a service appointment opening at 7AM! My only concern is I get there and they don’t want to work on my truck because of the mods. Possible extended warranty at play but doubtful.

My plan now is get up mega early and go to Draper for the install. The wife and kids will stay here in Moab since I already rebooked this room. I’ll request a late check out and hopefully they won’t get too sick of the pool.

If I leave by 3am I can get to Draper in time. They only thing that could make this situation better would be Art Bell coast to coast for a long night drive through the Desert.

Yall, I owe beers or dinner or whatever. Mega thanks!

Front left lower - 48069-60030
Front right lower - 48068-60030

They list for $453 and you should generally be able to find them for ~$300 on discount sites. Assembly includes the bushings and lower ball joint.

What other potential issues could that LCA movement cause? Could they pull it tomorrow and find something else hiding behind there? It attaches to the frame there, could frame issues be at play here? Just trying to be prepared for anything.

Is there any clunking from the forced movement? I can't tell how much force they're putting into the arm from the video but this movement could be in the realm of normal too. The bushings are giant donuts allowing for compliance by design. Even simply backing up the car will have the arms deflect.

As a sanity check does one end of the LCA deflect more than the others? Than the other side?

Even if the bushings are torn, it won't fail catastrophically as everything is captive and personally, I'd feel safe to continue on the trip to get home.

That said, I don't know the history with your suspension and it's wholly possible a mechanic did enough dumb stuff to get these to premature fail.

Only the one corner in that video did that, the rest didn’t budge. The noise was not made when he flexed that one corner but the front cam shows some area where movement has also happened. I can snap I pic in a few minutes. He had a 3 foot long pry bar on it so it was a fair amount of force.

Once seeing that he quit probing assuming that was the cause of the noise thinking he couldn’t apply the same force as the vehicle could.

My current state of anxiety is the movement causing other damage to other places.
