I removed the factory motor/antenna. Where the antenna wire bonds to the body of the motor I have torn off and zip tied up. Should I decide I want a radio(as I do pandora and will most likely get sat) I will wire it to a new fixed antenna location using a generic aftermarket rubber antenna.

ENGINE er,

IMO the next best looking snorkel to the Roca Silva is the TJM and your's looks nice. Since the bonnet can't be rotated to input air from the rear how does TJM address rain/snow ingress?

This doesn't directly answer your question Dan but someone recently asked me a similar question via PM pointing out a picture where my snorkel is pretty rammed with snow so I'm going to repeat my answer :)

The snow was from pushing through trees covered in it and I never noticed the build up until I looked at those pictures. It doesn't build up just from driving in it. As well as the snow spotted I've driven in plenty of very heavy rain storms at motorway speeds with no problems. I think the only time you'd have to worry is if you get a bucket of water and tip it in, seriously

I don't think there are specific exits for the water but as it is sucked in it will be suspended in the air and just pass through harmlessly. Water injection has been used to gain performance in the past on some engines so who knows it might be giving me an extra 50hp when it rains :D

Quite a lot of the intake area is side facing BTW, across the windscreen.

I don't think it has been addressed. But this isn't a daily and it doesn't snow in Houston.

Should we road trip in the rain I will be sure to report back how much rain it catches.

If it gets bad I should be able to rig up a one way valve at the stock air box to allow water to drain but not allow air/water in. Definitely not ideal but it's not a game ender.

Thanks for the input guys! I've needed to address the hyper amount of dust getting to the air filter apart of cutting the inner fender liner for more tire clearance with a snorkel...and since I can't justify a Roca Silva and now we can get TJM in the US I guess you've sealed my decision.

Jon...the countryside you're in ^^^ looks like Nevada!

Can you post a picture of the snorkel hardware inside the hood? I'm wondering how it conflicts with the secondary battery tray location that many of us have installed.

Thanks.

It runs along inside the body panel and enters the engine bay through the existing OEM opening so it should only interfere with stuff inside the panel which should just be your antenna.

How it lines up for the antenna, mine is RHD but if you look where the antenna whip sticks up on the opposite side and project it across you should get an idea how it more than likely overlaps the antenna hole on LHD trucks

Side facing part of the intake is bigger than frontal shots make it look. Looks like the design has changed slightly on the newer one.

That was a good time , I feel sorry for the guy that came into the spray and wash after me..... but I still have a ton of mud and leaves on the underside

nice pics guys, looks like a lot of fun indeed.

from my understanding the system automatically drains rain with the way the air circulates internally....snow problem would only be if it was wet snow and packed tight to block air into snorkel. The centrifucal force of the water entering snorkel and going down has it hit the back and sides of the tube where drain holes are located so water runs out these holes prior to continuing down and through fender. I am assuming it works based on these being around for long time with no issues. I think there is a picture or description of this happening in the TJM catalog or on other snorkel websites....check it out. Turning head around backwards is what some do but not recommended for highway speeds as it causes a vacuum and will prevent air from being drawn into snorkel...at slow trail speeds it is not an issue. If in wet snow you may need to stop and check every hour or so....

I swear....I think Durhamtown would be muddy even if the state was in middle of a 20 year drought...I have never been there or known anyone that went there when it was not a muddy mess... LOL Great pics.

What happened to your grill?

Garden sprinkler time. Then I just feel sorry for my neighbors who have to look at the mess on my driveway until it dries.

Unfortunately, being the only photographer on a trip has it's drawbacks. I did manage to get a few from a recent local trip.

Large to small....yes that's a Geo Tracker and Yes it did very well on the trip.
