Nice Jack!
Score on the MM 250 too!
How much did you pick that up for?
I was wondering if you were gonna get more work done!
Just out of curosity...why did you decide that you needed a snorkle?
Ive never fully understood the advantage to those!

Looks great!
Cant wait till the lift gets in and you "JACK" the mofo up!

K

I heard the snorkel...or as Jack has appropriately named it "dorkel" for us desert dwellers ;)...was a concession :D:princess::D

WOW! Score! Where did you find that?! I really wished I would have been able to have 'stretched' to the 250...but it wasn't in the budget.

I found it on Craigslist. It's a few years old and will need some TLC, regulator and consumables, but other than that, it has the driver wheels for .025,.030 and .035 wire. I tested it out and everything works. Plus it has extra long ground and gun cables.

The guy had it listed and I called him, he said, "By the way, I have the Aluminum Spool Gun that goes with it."

He had it listed for $900. I offered him $800 and he took it. Apparently his girlfriend got a DUI and he needed the money for that.

Two small prices to pay for Darcie allowing me to spend biggem' buckems'. She wanted the snorkle and Slee's step sliders, so that what it has.

Well the deep water thing really only works on old style diesels, too much stuff to get wet on gas motors. For us desert dwellers, it is more of a dust thing. With the motor taking in air at roof it's getting much cleaner air than at headlight level. So even when you are following someone across the valley at mach one, the heavier dirt particles remain closer to the ground and hopefully, the snorkle is pulling in the lighter/smaller particles/clean air. That is the theory anyway.

Plus it just looks cool.:flipoff2:

Drove around today, and it does get some serious looks.

I agree on the lift, it's killing me. I have everything else, gears, bearing, seals, shocks, brake lines, weld in adjusters, tires, etc...

I'm glad you figured out a clean air source for when you're following me with my AT in tow :flipoff2:.

Oh...that's a great deal on a 250!

Hell yeah thats a great deal on that welder!
Nice find!
The longs cables would be SOOOO nice!

What is it with the women and snorkles? Julie wants to get one too on the rig...Go figure.

Its looking awesome Jack!
I always look forward to hearing and seeing the progress as it goes.
Its fun to watch other people WORK and SPEND!:D

I'm usually the one at the end of the line.:flipoff2:

At least there is one sane woman in the club, :princess: was very clear on her NO SNORKEL stance.

Are you going with a roof rack too?
Maybe some PIAA lights?

I already have a roof rack, built it for my 4runner and carried it on my LX. Hangs in the garage and holds my camp gear. Only need it when camping, my awning is attached to the rack.

Kept the PIAA lights from the Taco, so yeah those will go on there also.

Next bit of news...

My Slee 4 inch springs should be here on Wednesday, yeah baby.:clap: That was the last thing I needed to get the lift on.

So Saturday morning the tear down begins. Scheduled for gears on Sunday. :bounce:

I am shooting for :steer: by the end of the month.

NICE!
I was wondering about when the lift was gonna commnece!
That sure took long enough to get, hu?

Hey Jack, what kind of mileage are you getting on the 80? Are you using it as a DD?

Just curious!

I know, the springs were killing me. They got to Slee last Friday and shipped to me yesterday (Monday) Apparently they were being shipped from Australia on a 3 masted ship.:D

So far on mileage around here, we are getting 13.5-14. We have gotten as much as 16, but that is keeping it below 65.

:princess: is using it as a DD right now because of the weather, but normally it sits. We try to drive her car as much as possible, 32 mpg average.

How goes the trimming/metal work and bumper?

That mileage is better than some of the other reports that ive heard, and its actually better than what my Ford gets....:crybaby:
Glad to hear that the springs came and the work on your rig can commence. Im really looking forward to seeing it when its done. Something about the lifted 80s...They just look SOOOOO GOOOD!
You still going to do the gears yourself or did you decide something different?
Im really interested to hear how that goes. Seems that it would be really freaking hard to do right.

The body work is done, got one side of the woodgrain off (PITA) and started hacking off the cross braces on the rear to start mocking up the rear bumper.
Thanks for asking.

Have fun!

Yeah, so far this one has really surprised me, in a good way.

I know how you feel about lifted 80's, they just look right on the 4"/35 combo.

Going to do the gears on Sunday. I've got someone with a lot of experience helping me, so we should be able to do this, plus he has the tools I don't have. I have everything to do the gears, shims, bearing, gears, tools, etc... I have re-geared two other vehicles and I have always paid someone to do it, so really want to do this one so I can learn.

Good luck on the bumper and the woodgrain:beer: I have built a few bumpers, so far my jeep was my favorite, straight lines baby. My 4runner just never looked right, if I had kept it, I would have re-done it. The big thing is take your time and tack everything together to make sure it is where you want it. Maybe even take a day or two looking at it to make sure you are happy before finalizing it.

As far as the woodgrain...ugh. 3M makes a rubber looking wheel that fits on a drill, its like a big eraser, they are designed to remove stickers, stripes, etc...Not cheap, but they work great and don't damage the paint.

I got springs.

Jack

Can you say home stretch? :D

Damn...wish I could be there to see the diff work! Take photos please!

X2 on the pics!
Id love to try this endeavor myself, but...Id rather watch from the sidelines I think and get a good assessment from someone else!:D
Congrats on the springs!
That took a seriously LOOOONG time!

I will try and remember to take pics. I am excited and nervous at the same time. As with most things it's not rocket science, but can be expensive if you screw it up.
