Manifold. Is a big word.

I got to drive the rig to Moab and spend an afternoon there. Unfortunately the trip was for business more than fun but I did find a few hours to check out Arches NP and do a little hike.

Apparently tourists don't know how to use an American toilet.

I got a job offer at the little hospital in Moab. But housing is so expensive there I won't be able to buy a house. I could take the job and rent but I am ready to buy a house..... decisions decisions

And now the general public needs out house instructions. This is a really good sign……. Buy a house else where that makes sense to you, rent it out and live in Moab, at least for a while. Sounds like a dream, but then again, you do live a dream life….. :flipoff2:

With October quickly approaching it is time to get the rifles out.

First time shooting the ruger gunsite scout. 308 and I am very happy with it.

The old husqvarna 30 .06 is loving the 180gr sako super hammerhead ammo I just got.

I have started to notice a small quick belt squeak when I turn on the AC. I did new belts about a year ago and they needed to be snugged up.

Got that done this morning and re-organized my tools.

Later today I should be going over to a buddy's to tackle the exhaust manifold gasket.

Got the exhaust manifold gasket and collector gaskets replaced. The leaks were worse than I thought, it idles much quieter now.

I am always amazed at how gutless these things are for towing. This trailer only weighs 800 lbs and the bike is 520lbs. Even this light load was a struggle for the rig on any kind of hill.

What gears do you have? The 1fz is a free revving engine so the use of rpm’s is highly encouraged. A lot of work can be done with 200 HP and proper gearing.

4:88's and lots of hills. But I also try and keep my rip ems under 3400. I know the engine can rev higher but it's also known to blow head gaskets.....

It’s not known to blow head gaskets once the job is done correctly using good hardware and a long ago updated HG.

After asbestos was outlawed gasket manufactures went through growing pains as they came up with new materials and tech to make head gaskets with. Toyota is far from the only manufacturer to have HG challenges during those years.

High rpm’s tend to keep in cylinder pressure lower. Deleting egr helps as it seems the majority of 1fz HG’s fail at #6 cylinder. 4600 rpm is where HP peaks so at 3400 you are not accessing what is available.

My Hg was replaced at a dealership 1500 miles before I bought it and based on the sloppy job I saw on the outside, the head bolts we not replaced. Heck, they didn’t even change the oil after the repair nor did the PO. But, I have flogged that engine many times over the last 6.5 years and the HG lives on.

Well I feel stupid. I knew my sway bar was lowered but never really thought about after I got the rig.

While I was fixing exhaust leaks I noticed the front driveshaft was gettting nice and grooved lol.

20220809_175509.jpg

What's funny is the shaft has two grooves. One from before the RAM mounts and one after the ram mounts. Solid proof the axle got pushed forward.

Looking closer at the sway bar it had only been lowered 1" with some janky spacers. I guess a 1" spacer isn't enough for 3 inches of lift.

So I got some sway bar parts and new u-joints ordered and will get a different used shaft installed up front.

Today I got the old u-joints out and prepped the "new" used front shaft.

Installed new u joints on my spare shaft a couple days ago.

Than today I got some spare time to crawl under the rig.

The front drive shaft definitely had some grooving going on.

There are two grooves, the old one is from before the RAM mounts moved the axle forward an inch.

Out with the old and in with the old....

I ordered a 2" sway bar drop kit from @landtank to replace the 1" spacers that were on there.

I got a cold cut saw and drill press but I figured for $50.00 dollars it's worth it to avoid digging out the tools and spending 2 hours trying to find the right bolts locally. Plus his product has a high quality finish. Totally worth it 👌

I realized I need to do some cleaning and painting in my under regions. But I should be good to go for now.

Or let the sway bar collect dust in one corner of the garage.

How much difference does it make? I do a lot of twisty highway canyon driving so I figured I better keep it for now.

Hopefully within another year I can get a 2nd vehicle and turn this rig into a dedicated trail truck.

The difference is felt when the steering wheel is rotated quickly for sure. Under what I consider normal driving conditions, there isn’t a lot of difference. It’s that emergency maneuver they will show the diference. I drive my cruiser like an old man.

I'll keep it on for now, I am constantly swerving to miss the stupid deer on the highway.

The weather is starting to cool down so today I did about 260 miles looking for some septarian nodules.

Haha, I love the small towns in Utah!!!

A nice small septarian, I got impatient and broke it with the hammer. Should have waited and cut it on the saw.

Stopped at a rock shop on the highway and the owner liked my cruiser so much he gave me a carnelian to bring good energy to the rig lol.

I have finally finished overhauling my exhaust. Between the leaks, rattles, and headache inducing loud muffler I couldn't take it anymore.

Took it to a shop and had them replace the exhaust the pipe behind the exhaust to quiet it up and cure the rattle where it would hit the body behind the muffler.

I decided to keep the exhaust from the cat to the muffler routed high and tight so to cure the last and worst rattle I pulled and notched the slider.

It's finally quiet!!!!

Ignore the rust, I know I need to spend a couple days cleaning and painting the undercarriage and armor.
