That FJ-60 cover is a pretty slick idea. Looks good, I think if you cut the rearward portion of the factory transfer opening out, the bump out in it would weld back on pretty easily behind the FJ-60 transfer opening and provide the sealing area there.

You want a good seal at this area, it is amazing the heat and sound that will come in if you have any holes, even under a carpet mat. The ability to nicely use the FJ60 boots will be very nice, they are good boots compared to the factory FJ40 setup.

when I got the truck, I installed fiberglass matting under the tranny cover to shield against heat - some of it can be re-used; I may have to look into installing some more before I do the interior insulation and carpet work

I am gonna say Boooo Kevin I thought I was getting the 60 cover for the butcher job on my tunnel. I am surprised you did not shoot the tranny and Transfer with the Krylon. I will not spoil the surprise you remember the Pink ooops. Damn it I am so stupid sorry Caudia pretend you did not hear that, Awesome job guys! You are kicking @$$.

Caudia You should be able to put down Dyna Mat or a comparable to help you with the heat issue.

I don't like the Dynamat - I installed it on the firewall back when, and in that process realized how hard it would be if I had to ever get it off again - now that the truck needed some welding on the bed, I am so glad I did not do the rest of the truck

instead, I used double sided carpet tape to glue down the insulation mat that Summit sells, and then put hardware store outdoor carpet mats on top, after cutting them to size - on top of that went a Specter Offroad Carpet kit, and the footwells each had a $5 Walmart plastic dirt collecting mat - I am planning to go the same route with the new insulation/carpet after the truck's rear is painted

I kept my old carpet mats, as I might produce a pattern from it that could help others with their carpet project - when I get around to it . . .

So, we wanted the next step to be mounting the trans, so it would be solidly mounted where it will live, but,,, lost the trans mount!:hillbilly: So, got distracted with other projects.:o

Anyway, where were we?

I don't see the problem with sealing it up - between a rubber gasket strip, hardware store foam and Eastman black guey putty that can be used to stuff the area, it's all gonna be under the sound proofing mat and carpet in the end anyway :D

No gona to cut it!:hillbilly:

Did some more choppin.

Stuck some stuff on.

Discard pile.

Great green glops of greasy grimy,,,, :whoops: this isn't about food?

The rear of the motor has always been a leaky mess, so, making an attempt at stemming the tide. Pulled the pan, tossed it in the cleaner.

Pulled the rear main cap and sealed it.

Used Fel Pro snap-ups to install the pan and gasket. They were from a previous job, likely 5/18" but stripped in nicely!:hillbilly: They worked very well, with this size of pan, 6 would have been better, but was much better than nothing.

These: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ac...n-SnapUps/_/N-26pm?itemIdentifier=155049_0_0_

They thread into the bolt holes, snap the pan gasket over, line it up, snap the pan on, start the other bolts, then replace the snap-ups with bolts and tighten all of them. Worked slick, much less fight.

How much cleaner will you get the pan? Will you paint the outside of the pan? I have mine off and it was gross on the outside. inside is just thin black that simple green is not making a dent in. What did yu use to clean the inside with?

The fuel line looked a bit sketchy/crunchy. Cut the ferrule with a cut wheel, worked it off of the fitting. Installed new line with an Amflo #7325 brass ferrule. Should be ready to go for another 40yrs.

Have a BE heated spray wash cabinet, so stuck it in there for a couple of hours, came out looking like in the pic, makes the deal relatively painless!:hillbilly: After that, wiped the gasket surface and residue from the inside with lacquer thinner, blew it off and installed.

I'm not a simple green fan, prefer engine cleaner (the stuff from wally world works) and/or Costco degreaser. If it won't fit in the cabinet, a pressure washer is the tool of choice, if needed coin op car wash.

This rig isn't a show car, is likely to get wheeled, like as often as possible, so is likely to get dirty! The paint was in good condition, didn't do the paint, polish, wax thing.:o

When you get it back and it will not go anywhere I know why. There is something missing in the bellhousing. Yea, I know your just measuring for the tunnel. It still looks funny.

It's much lighter that way, with what she carries, every bit helps!:hillbilly:

You must be working on bumpers :hillbilly: because it's been almost two weeks since an update :grinpimp:

Got to finally look at it myself - btw, the new anatomically correct creeper is the shiznit :) - and the new crossmember is f'in cool ... While under there, I got to admire the creatively broken spring pin, and then the conversation went roughly like this:

"I thinks it's pretty stout, it's unlikely she's ever going to break this."

"But you know as well as I do that she will try..." :hillbilly:

:grinpimp:

takes special skill :hillbilly: :steer:
