Looks good with the wider axles. I do like the stance of the 40s with 60s axles.

Right now it has spacers, H55 and rear axle swap is on deck.

I really like that bumper Claudia!

the bumper came with the truck when I got it - have not found the manufacturer

the swingout tire carrier is yet another example of fine over-engineering on this truck :grinpimp:

My guess; the bumper was custom/home made. It has proven to be stout/solid, fits tight, so decided to keep it. Had a trailer hitch, cut that off.

Being tight to the rig caused a challenge with clearance between the swing and tailgate hinges. Could have spaced the bumper out enough to clear, we decided to split the difference, offset the swing and slightly space the bumper.

The spindle and tire mount came from Dave 4+Plus. We ordered the spindle as a blank, unfinished, will be using it slightly differently than he does, so turned it in the lathe to our spec.

To offset the spindle, drilled 1.5" holes in the top and bottom of the bumper tube. Then cut the face of the tube out on the saw. Lined up the spindle and burned it in.

Working on the swing. Welded the bushing holder on one end, with the swing arm offset to the rear (no pic:o).

The latch plates are 3/8" with tapped holes for the latch and a plastic support block that will ride on the bumper.

The tire mount and then the gussets.

The outer shell of the tire mount wasn't long enough for the tire/wheels the will be used, so had to make a new one.

Still need to cut the holes, install the tail lights, recovery points, cut/cap the end of the swing, etc. Had to drive it out for some pix.:hillbilly:

The swing stop, to prevent rotating further than design. The .5" plate should be good enough?

The spindle will have a cover to retain the swing.

The tire mount is adjustable to accept differing sized tires and/or wheel backspace. On the front, we added a hook to allow for easier installation of heavy tires.

Hi all,

Wow! The rig is looking great!

Thanks for sharing the spare tire carrier build Tools R Us.

Regards,

Alan

The bolts that go through the plate that is an abandoned artifact of the trailer hitch, had washers under them, reducing the finger clearance for the latch. We were able to remove them, the clearance feels much better now, if it still proves to be a problem, can cut the heads off and weld them flush.
