So just to updated the right thread..... I was in a rush, and a bit weak after a crappy day, and went through McD's for dinner and was feeling pretty bad about it.

I had the grilled chicken sandwich, no mayo, fries and a diet coke.

I tracked my entire day and McD's included I'm at 29 points (I get 44 per day). So I can stop beating myself up over it. The fries and sandwich were 8pts each.

were you driving the 80?
my mom coined a phrase when I was a kid "if you are going to eat that you better be prepared to work it off" not saying I circumvented my diet regularly but when it happened I was to get enough cardio to offset the indulgence. hope this helps.
keep it up Dave

yeah, it's cool. I really didn't need to freak out about that, I think it was my bad day talking... I made way to big a deal over it, I was under my points yesterday but a good chunk, no worries.

DAVE - KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

We could call this the bare your soul thread since most of us chiming in have demons in one form or another.

I was really caught off guard in October '07 to find I needed a triple bypass. I'm no kid, but not quite 60 at the time. Cholesterol was pretty much borderline, but the good cholesterol and tryglicerides were exemplarary so the Doc and I thought I was OK. 210 pounds and and 5'11" isn't obese, but I had gradually become way too inactive except for playing some golf in the summer, wrenching and wheeling.

In any case, I avoided a very serious heart attack, possible the widowmaker, when I went to the ER with minor symptoms. If I had stayed home, I'd probably be dead by now. It took them 6 hours to realize that there was a bit of a problem and the catheterization the next day proved there was a major blockage. No fun having your chest sawed open top to bottom and there were weeks of recovery. Fifteen months later, I still have some discomfort from time to time from the carving. Long story short, I survived just short of having a heart attack and enjoy every minute that I'm awake these days, wheeling is an added plus.

Dave likes the Weight Watchers thing and I can relate. I quit smoking 14 years ago on the 13th of this month doing a group program. Some of us do better with a group than on our own. After doing cardiac rehab, I'm still doing an exercise maintenace program 3 days a week over a year later. It's a group. I try to exercise on my own outside that, although winter sucks for that, but the group keeps me in line.

Our bodies were made to move and work. You never saw a fat farmer when I was a kid. It's easy to sit at the computer all day, I know I do. When you diet, you lose weight for awhile and then the body says, what's up?, and then goes on defense. The metabolism slows and every pound becomes a chore. The answer really is to keep moving. That keeps the metabolism up and muscle activity burns calories faster than sitting and starving.

Dave is to be highly commended for his efforts and I wish him very well and much success. Same to everyone else out there fighting their own personal demons, whether it is being a little too large, smokes, drugs or booze. Good luck to all of us and keep up the support!

I appreciate the kind words Larry, thank you.

My wife says I suffer from TMI disease (too much information) and this thread is a great example but, much like my WW meetings, laying it out there for all to see helps keep me in line and motivated.

No problem. The point is that you are making the effort and found a way that works for you.

Now, if we could all just find a club called LCA (LandCruisersAnonymous).

speaking of dogs, did you get the lab pup you were thinking about a while back? it was a lab pup right?

.... need to do some shoveling though as my porch roof just puked a foot of snow onto my steps. :)

I had to do the same today. It got up to 40 degrees today, the first time above freezing in a long time. The snow slid off the steel roof all around the house.

Keep it up Dave!

I'm a bit off my goal of 2lbs. a week but I know I can achieve that and more if I stick to it. :) :)

I am just 0.2 from my 5% (20lbs.) I thought for sure I'd hit it this week but I was less-then-good on a few occasions so it's really no surprise.

Keep it up. I've stopped exercising and wine intake has gone up a bit with all the insanity going on on my end. Things have finally settled out and I hopped on the scale today. All cookies are going in the trash and the nightly glass of wine or two is done for a while. I gained about 5 lbs this month. Traveling and eating fast food didn't help either.

Cutting out the vino should reduce my gut which is where I need the most help at the moment. My next door neighbor is a trainer so gonna ask her to get me on a schedule
