I have a field report from my first use on my family heirloom. I picked this up on the West coast this summer while helping my grandmother clean her garage after my grandfather passed away. I last ate from this stove in 1985 or so in Lassen National Park. I took it out this weekend. It is a 413E with factory propane. I had a small propane bottle in the garage and I got 4 cooks out of it plus coffee and warming dish water. I was curious what kind of fuel consumption the stove had. I was impressed. The stove did great and I look forward to many more meals. It handled 2 pans nicely

Finished up the details on the case/bag for the 426D, and made a bag for the 502 with the drop. I might have to test the little bag to see if it doubles as a water bucket.
Sorry for more pictures guys, but I don’t know any local Coleman Nuts.

My wife picked up a single burner stove and single mantle lantern at a garage sale but they both leak fuel out of the valves. I've tightened the packing nut to no avail so I'm thinking they need more packing. Any suggestions on what kind of packing they use and where to get it?

Thank you Sir!

Having been introduced to the simplicity of Shellite/White Gas/Coleman fuel after buying my 426D, I have found three Coleman lamps over the last few months to ad to my collection.

They cover three decades, and have only served to whet my appetite to keep searching for some earlier examples.

They are a 220J date stamped March 1975, a 214 Kerosene model from August 1988, and a 285 Dual Fuel built in September 1997.

Interestingly, the single mantle Kero 214 seems to be just as bright, possibly even a little brighter than the double mantle 220J and 285. The pictures do not show this very well at all, and the last pic makes the 214 look dimmer than the others but in reality the 214 seems brighter. Maybe it's the colour temperature of the light making it seem brighter? Does anyone else have any comments one way or the other comparing Kerosene to Coleman fuel as far as brightness comparisons go?

Cheers
Scotty

Nice finds especially for Oz. I hear Coleman stuff is relatively rare there. The 214 is rare here and has been out of production for years. I'd like to have one.

The consensus is that Kero lanterns just run hotter hence the more white light versus the more yellow light on the white gas examples. Also you can see how the vent/hat on the 214 is dulled up a bit from the heat. Once again somewhat speculation but the consensus is that the higher heat generated by Kero is tough on the vents.

Use and enjoy them often.

I have a 426D 3 burner up for grabs if anyone wants it. 1977. It's free if you pick up in Sacramento. No shipping. Works great, no issues, not rusty. It's been through the Rubicon and Death Valley a couple of times. Good stove.

It has adjustable feet, which actually work great but it isn't a perfect original. But it's free so if you want a good 3 burner for cheap, this is the one.

Pics if you want, but imagine a metal green box the size of a suitcase and that's it.

I have 4 other 3 burners, and this one is surplus.

<I would like to see a picture of the adjustable feet on that stove Cruiserdrew, if the stove isn’t too bashful that is. Thank you.

I'll take a pic after work today. But you still need to make arrangements to pick it up in Sacramento if you want it!

The adjustable feet were an experiment trying to get it always level, and it works but that was before I got a couple of coleman stove stands from back in the day.

No shipping, boo. GLWS Drew

Question: what are you replacing it with?

Not replacing. I have a whole fleet of 3 burners! Mostly use my 426C s, but also my 438B.

And notice it is not for sale. It is for free. If you to pick it up, I'll throw in an unfired/unsued single burner.

I just sent an e-mail to a buddy in Sac that may be interested. If that's okay (he is a bronco dude so you'll have to forgive him ;) )
