After a well deserved trip to Marshall's Cruiser Spa the 80 is back home.
Marshall did a FANTASTIC job. Above and beyond. Believe it or not...I know it
is stranger than fiction.... he fixed the P401 Insufficient Gas Recirculation
Check Engine idiot light. He did too much to list but let me just say....He's Da Man!
Steve hooked me up with a new ARB with winch and custom recovery gear w/ bags.
I really felt naked when the 40 went and I was winchless for the first time in
decades.
I'm a happy camper now.
I was goggling and hit these reviews of the FZJ80s.
I think I'm not the only 80 lover.
Check out Kelly Blue book.

It was good seeing you yesterday David. And it was good to see your 80 get some awesome goodies.

Here is a pic of your kinetic rope. My phone was dead so I didn't get any of the ARB bumper and Warn VR winch. :-(

Dear Lord...... how many miles on that thing David? That EGR port and modulator is crazy!!!
244K. We put about 170K of those miles on her.
I can't believe the thing was still running. Well, it was and is a Cruiser.
The CEI P401 code was there when we bought it.
It is gone now...Baby!
Marshall is Da Man!

The entire egr system was solid. I had to drill out the main throttle body section. As well the port going under the manifold. It was all a huge mess. Every vacuum hose was dry rotted so they all were replaced. Replaced a bolt missing that was supposed to hold the alternator on. The intake plenum was snapped in two with duct tape holding it together. Rotten tape at that. Manifold got all new gaskets, and a good cleaning, the throttle body was cleaned. Every port was clogged. The big one was replacing the valve cover gasket and sparkplug tube seals along with all the hoses. I mean every one. Even the PHH and the hose that routes under the manifold and to the back side of the throttle body. Then everything got a coat of paint. Usually if I have a part off and clean it I'm going to paint it. Usually.

Marshall inspired me to paint the wheel center caps and buff the wheels. Ordered some sheepskins for
the front. Headed to a detail shop next week. What else could I do? The engine bay looks better than new.
:-)
Pics when I am able.

And it is going into semi-retirement. No more daily driver duties. It now takes the 40's spot
in the stable. Fun stuff truck. Pull the boat or the Sprite a time or two each summer. Bad weather,
get out of Dodge, haul the Pooch, rescue ......you know.... Cruiser stuff truck. Just not the daily driver.
The new DDs get 30+ mpg. Sacrifices had to be made.
Ohm...cruiser,cruiser,cruiser...Ohm

The sheepskins came in today. Had the a/c drained and recharged. Left it overnight at a detail
shop. CEL returned. P401.....what a shocker. ;-)
Only the old egr deal. Meh...who cares? I haven't for 100K + . Nice try Marshal.
I told the minions at the detail shop to NOT lay a hand on the engine bay. Mainly
needed the brush scratches buffed and some wax. Dang the things are huge.
My days of waxing a Cruiser roof are OVER.
Can't wait to install the sheepskins.
Pics to follow.
